Are any of you thinking about joining a sorority/fraternity as a transfer student? I am transferring to UCSD in the fall and I think it would be a great way to meet people. But, I am wondering if it is common for a junior to join one? I will be 21 when school starts so I don't know if that would be too old/weird?

wouldn’t you be a lower rank, or whatever its called, than people who were in it since freshman year so wouldnt you be taking orders from sophomores…?

Yeah, I guess you’re right…

i’m doing it! i’ve heard that lots of transfer students rush…you will only be there two years so it won’t be the exact same experience but it’s still one of the easiest ways to meet people!
oh and im going to ucsd too :)

Can you guys tell me more about ranks?

ranks is in reference to the fact that you will be pledging, and if you get a bid, you will be rushing and the brothers/sisters of the frat/sorority will be of higher rank than you until you become a brother/sister. meaning you have to take crap from them or whatever. i don’t think UCSD fraternities/sororities haze too hard/at all though… i wouldn’t imagine.

in essence, you will be subordinate to people 0-2 years younger than you… not that huge of a deal. i’d say go for it.

I’ll be rushing a few frats, and hopefully pledging in one at UCB. There is a huge thread on the UCB board about frat/sorority tiers. Also, for those interested in even more about Greek life at Berkeley, go to Calgreeks.com :)

Thanks for the input guys!

@grey_syntactic - I actually heard that UCSD does some pretty hardcore hazing in some of the fraternities (haven’t heard any bad hazing stores for the sororities though). I think I’m going to rush and see what happens :)

My answer is no hahaha

I’ll probably be rushing at UCLA in the fall.
