I'm planning on attending the junior statesman program in Georgetown this summer, specifically session 1, International Relations. Who is else going? Does anyone who has gone in the past have any suggestions?

Bump…

I did exactly what you are doing last year. It was a blast. The kids were awesome- i had a close group of friends that I still talk to. Honestly, though, I found int’l relations to be kind of boring. The professor is fantastic and smart, but it was not so appealing to me. If you already have an interest in the subject, though, you will find the class 100% rewarding. As to congressional workshop, that was my favorite structured thing that we did on campus.

If you don’t love Georgetown now, you will probably grow to adore it by the end of the 3 weeks. It is my first or second choice for college. I don’t know where you are from, but if you don’t know Washington well, you’ll love that aspect too. I found the speakers program to be kind of unimpressive–at least to how they described it would be – but nonetheless enjoyed most of what I saw.

Thanks for your reply. I believe that International Relations is something that I’m interested in, so I’m hoping that I’ll find the class rewarding.
Can you answer a several questions that I have about the program?
I bet that this was written on the first page and I missed it, but are you allowed to leave the campus on Sundays when there aren’t any classes; or are they afraid that you’ll get lost or something?
About how much money should I count on spending?
What’s the food like in the Dinning Hall? Are there enough places to eat the other 7 meals a week? Any particular place that has good food? By the way, I’m guessing no, but is there a fridge in the dormitory?
Finally, how is the internet there? I read that you need to rent out an adapter, but other than that does it work fine?
Thanks for your help,
Ivan

By the way, I’m from the suburbs of Philly, so I’ve visited the city a couple times, though I haven’t seen the campus.

-You can go out all day each Sunday with a small group of kids. You just have to sign out.
-I spent less than $500. I don’t buy souvenirs. I spent most of the money on new clothes and food.
-The food in the dining hall is good enough for 3 weeks. I ate lunch and dinner there (except on weekends). There are two floors, downstairs was better. For breakfast, there is a deli called Wisemiller’s directly across the street from the int’l relations classes. Maybe the building will change, but you have to go to this deli…it is so good and I wish I could go right now! There is no fridge.
-The internet is bad. For some reason, Gtown has only half-decent wifi. Some rooms have poor wifi connections or none at all. When you get there, you can rent an adapter for a fee that is refunded when you leave in July.
-I’m also from the Philly area. I lived in bucks county most of my life and moved across the river two years ago.

Have fun!
