Just wondering because my brother's friend just heard back that he has not been accepted - Isn't March 10th the date when schools notify acceptance? Anyway, if Andover is different, did anyone get in?? Or not? How hard is it???

Hmmm… is he an international applicant? Because as far as I know, they don’t give those dates till, like you said, March 10th…

Andover seems like one of the most difficult prep school to get into with its low acceptance rate and large number of applicants.

Is he a legacy or sibling? That would explain a call to the parents to break the bad news.

No, he is American - Seems odd that he already heard the news, but maybe he was eliminated a candidate for admission early on I’ve heard the same about Andover - I think the acceptance rate is a little under 20% or something.

I know a rich average Joe that got in last year.

i think andover might notify their legacy applicants early, so i think this kid was probably a legacy

Legacy, siblings and donors are notified via phone call as a courtesy. Any other notification is against the ten-school’s agreement.

Andover’s acceptance rate is 14%, which is lower than most prep schools, which seem to have an acceptance rate of around 17%.

I don’t know much about legacies, really, although I hear it’s easier for them to get in.

Don’t worry about it. Andover and the TSAO has stated numerous times that no early decison under any circumstance is given before March 10th. Their decision is final. Which means you have been given incorret information and on March 10th everything should be cleared up regarding this situation. Hope I helped!

If you check parent threads there are statements that legacy and siblings get reject calls prior to M10 as a courtesy but not acceptance notification. So many of the legacy families have been on alert for the call. I am sure in legacy circles people know dates when calls are being made and by not getting bad news in that time frame can expect a thick envelope on M10. I guess advantage to early rejection is you can put your on spin on it when telling others.

He is a legacy, so I supose everyone is right about that. Thanks for the clarification!

Hi Guys,

I just posted this in the parents’ forum:

We just received this e-mail (today, 3/8/2010) from my husband’s alma mater:

Admission decisions will be available on line on Thursday morning. As the news that will be delivered is likely to be disappointing and in deference to your connection to Perfect Boarding School, I will extend to you an opportunity to preview your child’s admission decision. I will be available by phone for most of the day tomorrow. Please feel free to call me on my direct line at XXX. If the line is busy, leave a message or please try the main number at XXX. I will be in the office on March 10th and 11th as well.

BTW, our child had good SSAT scores total 2238, Percentile 96; GPA of 3.8 at a rigorous independent private school and good ECs and my husband has donated to his alma mater for over 30 years. Go figure! Maybe DC wrote about harming small animals in the essay? JK!

That’s unreal! Did a lot of other students apply from your child’s school?

Really don’t know! Plan to call tomorrow as directed!

“Admission decisions will be available on line on Thursday morning.”

For everyone, or just for those who are legacies, donors, etc.?

Everyone on March 10

No legacy? no calls and no problem.

Till it is M10. It is so dreadful to picture finding a handful of small envelopes waiting for me on Thursday, which is a real possibility like it or not.

goodchoices: online as in myandover?

lolagirl30 - Goodchoices’s post was a quote from an email she received from one particular school. It does not speak to notifications from any school other than that one. For notification info, see [this thread](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-admissions/1073196-how-schools-notify-acceptance-5.html).

oh I’m sorry. I assumed it was andover because of the thread.
