In April, I took the ACT (no writing) and got a pretty good score. I just retook it last month with the writing option, and my score dropped two points, which really angers me. I was looking in the categories, and the first time I took the ACT, my reading subscore was a 32. The second time I took it, it was a 22! I really feel like this is a mistake... reading is one of my strengths... and for the subscore to drop a whole ten points seems a little odd to me. Should I request a re-score by hand, or do you think it'd be a waste?

If it is important to you, then yes, definitely get it re-scored. If it turns out to actually be a 30+ (which it probably will, given reading is one of your strongpoints and you previously scored a 32), wouldn’t it be wonderful??

Generally people don’t drop on ACT reading like that as it is quite objective, so I would get a rescore. But there is always the possibility that the test you took just didn’t jive well with how you were thinking that day and you actually did badly.

However, a 10 point drop is rather strange so I would go for the rescore. Hope it works out!
