Hey TomTheCat, Is there any movement on Andover’s waitlist? Are they fully enrolled? I heard admissions is still doing interviews. Is that for this year or next?

Any word on the Hotchkiss waitlist? I kept my name on it for the summer. I am still hoping for a spot to open up. I am hoping they are not overenrolled, I think that would destroy my chances completely.

How about exeter?

Did anyone else get a letter from Andover recently?

From what I am aware Exeter had a higher yield this year just as anticipates and most likely will not turn to waitlist

Having accepted and given a deposit to one school, theoretically what happens if you are then offered a spot off waitlist at first choice school? Are you still on the hook for full tuition at the first school? And is it bad form to let the waitlist school know you’ve already accepted somewhere else?

First - why would you tell the school you were accepted somewhere else? That kind of lets them off the hook. What is going on outside of them is irrelevant. What is relevant is that you’re still interested in the school that waitlisted you.

But at this point - with so many people on the waiting list - chances of advancing are getting slimmer and holding a spot at a school you clearly don’t want is denying that spot to someone who may have ranked them first.

There is a point of “no tuition return” for a boarding school and it’s probably late July or August 1.

My advice is to be happy you have a spot, and if something comes up in the summer, it’s a bonus. But if you’ve already accepted a spot at another school, you can’t change what is. If you get a spot before July 31st you’ll “probably” only lose the deposit. Afterwards, you owe the ENTIRE year’s tuition whether you go or not (and whether you’ve paid or not).

Good advice- thank you!

at least one hades school has gone to its waitlist

@tetus
which one?

Two of my friends that applied to boarding school with me both got WL/rejections. In the end, two day schools accepted them, and they applied long after the decision dates were released, like 3 months later… Check out local day schools with openings, you might be surprised…

Anyone with the good news of late?

July 31 is a major tuition deadline.

happy ending - my son got off the exeter waitlist last week - had given up hope!!

Congrats! It’s a good school (but I’m biased!)

I think that bodes well for other families. A friend recently got off the waitlist at another school but I’m not at liberty to say which one. The economy is making it awfully tough for many families (full pay and FA) to pull the trigger and I suspect there may be more movement as the “drop dead” tuition payment date approaches.

I hope your son enjoys being an Exonian!

does anyone know of someone who got off a waitlist who needed FA? there seems to have been quite a bit of waitlist movement this year, but not for (at least from what i’ve seen) FA applicants : ( i guess this is to be expected, though…

Yes - full FA - several families in the last few weeks. That is not to say that their experiences will mean movement for others. It is a hopeful sign, however, for those still waiting in the wings that there’s hope, even if minute.

@Exie

Which schools? Just curious because many claim they have taken very few to no kids off the wait list.

i’m curious as to which schools as well, Exie! please do tell, if you’re at liberty to (via PM is fine too )

People could be making up stuff on the Internet boards, just a word of caution.
