Would it be difficult to do an internship in LA if you did not have a car? How about getting to the beach…any difficulties w/o a car? What beach do most of the Chapman students go to?

Also, what types of trips are planned for the students on the weekends?

THanks

OC has a conservative reputation but that’s the fault of the Democratic Party, here, which is in collusion with the Republican Party of OC. That being said, I know a lot of people on the Obama campaign were promoting prop 8. Chapman is in Ed Royce’s district. The Democrats have the demographics to win the House seat, but the people running the Democratic Party in OC are backing the Republicans and sabotaging the Democratic candidates. In the 40th CD, more people voted than were registered in the district and the election was uncontested. There are a lot of liberals in OC. Most have been turned off by OC politics and that plays into the hands of the political conservatives.

So Cal is the one place where most everyone needs a car. To hang out at the university, you don’t need one, but to go anywhere else, a car is necessary.

As a parent of a student, I have attended several on-campus activities, and have noticed a very welcoming trend towards those of any political, cultural, religious or sexual orientation. There are signs all over campus with every activity you can imagine at a college campus. The Gay Straight Alliance is a well known group on campus, and in the Greek system there is even one fraternity with a large number of straight and gay students, and nobody seems to care what your preference is.

I asked my son who is home on spring break from Chapman what he thought the tolerance towards gays on campus, and he said something like “It’s 2009. People just don’t care what how you identify.” The campus seems tolerant, the students seem tolerant. This is a good thing.

Even though it is in conservative OC, he probably got more flak for being a political conservative, than a student who is gay would get on campus. ;)

Chinaski, what are your thoughts on the Creative Producing Pgm vs. the Film Production pgm? Are the Creative Producing graduates getting job offers as often as the Film Production graduates?

Glad to see your post. How was your first year at Chapman? What is your work load like? I am applying to the film production program. I would also like to do computer science. I am interested in film editing and special effects along with directing. That is why the interest in CS I think it would be a cool double. Is it possable to do a double major there with Film and CS. Or is that too much. I also plan to play a NCAA sport(water polo). What were your grades like in high school? Did you get very much aid? My video is posted on youtube with other Chapman 2011 essays you can search for sum17mer and check it out I would love to here from someone in the program and give me a true opinion of my essay. What do kids do on weekends around there? Have lots more questions but I don’t want to take all your time now.
MY Stats
1/390
GPA 4.4
8 AP classes
1950 SAT’s I know not great I can never finish the test never have enough time

I kind of already posted questions in other threads - and then noticed this one, whoops.

I was curious about how students from out-of-state fit in at Chapman. I’m from the Midwest and I only know one kid who goes to Chapman. He lived in Cali for ten years before moving out here and says that, at Chapman, it’s really important to have the “Cali mindset”. I wasn’t entirely sure of what he meant haha.

Is it easy to fit in for out-of-state students? Also, does Greek life dominate the social scene?

Hey everyone!
I’ve been admitted to Chapman for Fall 2011 and I’m pretty sure I’m going to go. I have a few questions…

Do they put people in rooms based on their major?
Is it hard for a student to transfer to a major in Dodge?

mere24: Congrats on getting in! What was your major?

Is it easy to fit in for out-of-state students? Also, does Greek life dominate the social scene?

According to DS friends and classmates that are from out-of-state, it is easy for them to fit in. Not everyone is in Greek life. DS has a job plus some occasion internships, so Greek life didn’t fit into the schedule. They don’t care if you’re in Greek life or not. Some of DS friends are in Greek, but they don’t have jobs. They still hang out together.

Do they put people in rooms based on their major?

No. They do not put people in rooms based on their major. Each student is require to fill out a housing and residence life questionnaire prior to receiving their housing assignment. Any questions about housing, there is a link you can look up under Chapman housing and residence life.

Is it hard for a student to transfer to a major in Dodge?

Only hard to transfer to film production. The other majors in Dodge should be easier.

Hope this helps.

Chapman’s website does say something about placing students in dorms according to a GE requirement course (I don’t remember which, some Foundations-type course) that they elect to take. That’s probably a question on the housing questionnaire, I would assume. Correct me if I am wrong.

They place you into dorms based on your FFC class, which is a GE requirement. You get a survey in April and get to select 7 of the classes you are interested in. Each class is assigned to a residence hall, and you typically live in the same building as your classmates.
I personally think it’s useless. Rather than getting assigned to a hall based off your housing survey, you’re grouped with larger groups of FFC students…not a fan of the system. Then again I also don’t get along with my roommates either so…

I applied as a Communications major but I want to transfer to PR/Advertising if I end up going.

Also, I asked this on another thread but to those who live in CA or go to school there, which school is more well recognized, LMU or Chapman?

this might be a dumb question but my web advisor changed from decision pending to admission accepted…does that mean im in or does that mean they have made a decision and i need to wait for my letter?

Do you mean Admission Approved? If so, you’re in.

ocfresh
yeah i mean admission approved. Thank you! =]

has anyone received an acceptance in the mail yet? or just on web advisor?

tz: Yes, it’s difficult. I know plenty of people who make it work, but I honestly have nothing in common (with one of my roommates…I like the other).
They do show which FFC is living where before you do the Survey. I didn’t get the class I wanted at all…did not end up enjoying it. Got a B. Life goes on.

EA decisions were just beginning to be posted on Sunday, so letters should be following shortly after. I got mine 3 days later last year.
