HI! I keep seeing threads asking about LMU vs Chapman but I wanted to ask one last time to get a more personal answer.
I've been accepted to both for screenwriting. My main concern is that although Chapman is known for film, it seems to be more concerned with production- not screenwriting. I'm not interested in production.
Also- I'm looking for a fun college experience, as well, and have heard that Chapman has a dead nightlife while LMU is in LA- always something to do.
I always considered Chapman my dream school but now I'm leaning towards LMU. However, Chapman is harder to get into, especially the film school, so I don't want to make a mistake and pass up a great opportunity.

Can anyone elaborate on anything I've been reading and hearing? Financial Aid has proven to be great from both so money is not the issue here.
I wish there was some kind of machine that lets you know the perfect school for you!:)

Haha I’m in the same boat. I’m leaning towards lmu but idk how they are with financial aid… I’ve been accepted to chapman and they claim they meet 100% student need… And it’s closer to home. I’d have to dorm at lmu.

Beach vs South Coast Plaza :)

Yeah, I was always told that I would not get any money from LMU but the financial aid pacakge they gave me covers all of my tuition I just need to pay for room and board which is very doable. Since I am from Oregon, I would have to live in dorms for either one.
I’m going to visit LMU in April. I saw Chapman last year and it was verrry cuuute but very SMALL and dead! I’m hoping when I go to LMU I’ll get that “I NEED TO GO HERE!” or “Chapman was better…” feeling!

OregonLove: I am also from Oregon. LMU is up on a hill-beautiful scenery, a few miles from the beach. If you are interested in Film, Chapman is much stronger that LUM. But, LMU has a nice feel. Same size student body about. LMU is a Jesuit education program, so very, very strong. Chapman was started by some protestant guys, but don’t think that is the focus. I think both schools are down on drinkin and drugs. Orange is a bit of a drive to beach, but do-able. Orange is more conservative than Santa Monica area. LMU is very very close to airport, which drops you off in PDX. John Wayne airport is close but more of a drive. I think both school are good-just depends on your major. The bottom line is the weather beats Oregon’s!

PS: Chap gave me way more $ than LMU-Double. I got a Dean’s Scholarship plus 3K more.

My take on it, as a parent and Angeleno: Chapman has put a lot of money into its film program, and it has earned growing respect in the last few years. My husband works in TV production and spoke at Chapman recently, and he was very impressed with the facilities and program.

That said, the overall education is probably better at LMU, which has a strong Jesuit-based liberal-arts curriculum, and there’s a whole lot more going on near LMU (Venice, Santa Monica, L.A., Manhattan Beach) than there is at Chapman.

One of my daughter’s best friends at LMU is in the screenwriting program, and he loves it.

Got accepted to USC. Will be turning down Chap and LMU so it opens spot for waitlisters:)

I am trying to decide between Chapman and LMU as well. Although Chapman gives out good scholarships and I got one of them, I think LMU is a better school to graduate from. It has a higher reputation and a recognized name.

which would you say has a better style of living? in terms of dorms, people, food, entertainment…

Well…I haven’t actually been to both schools…but from personal experience (friends), all my friends who goes to LMU either said it wasn’t that great, wasn’t worth it, the people are way too snobby, or transferred. On the other hand, all my friends who goes to Chapman said they love love love love every part of it. This doesn’t mean everyone who goes to LMU will think like that…it just depends on you i guess.

For dorms: both are beautiful. People: everyone says LMU is quite snobby. Entertainment: you can’t go wrong in LA, but OC has fantastic stuff too. So they really balance out each other. In the end, it just depends on you.

I’ve been to both schools and they are both really nice. For Chapman one of my friends goes there and says that campus security breaks up parties at 10ish on weekends and for LMU there are some commuters. I thought chapmans dorms were nicer especially for freshman (for LMU there are communal bathrooms)

Can you tell me what kind of GPA and test scores you have to get into either LMU or Chapman for screenwriting? Lots of extra curriculars? My son wants to go into screenwriting and LMU is first choice, Chapman second (probably won’t get into UCLA). Thanks!

Can you tell me what type of GPA and test scores (extra curricular etc.) you have to get into either of those schools? My son is interested in screenwriting and we visited both this spring break. He is a Sophomore in high school.
