Anyone have experience with Warby Parker glasses?

The title says it all. I am tempted but the online reviews seem to be all over the place. Any one use them or another online place?

Warby Parker also has brick and mortar stores. One of my kids got glasses at that one. Shop was in a big shopping mall. Price was very reasonable. Maybe look for that near you if you are concerned about online.

I use Zenni. And I have been very happy with my glasses.

Nope, no brick and mortar stores here. I wasn’t worried about ordering until I saw all these negative reviews. I feel like I should have stayed ignorant.

Limited experience (three pairs), but 100% positive from me.

We’ve had some family members that swore by them until their prescription got more complicated.

My DD loved the pair she got from them online.

I’m an optometrist, so take this with whatever grain of salt you feel is appropriate.

WP was a great innovator in the industry. Essentially they put the world on notice that you can’t sell generic sweatshop sourced crap with a random designer name on it and expect to get a lot for it. People still do. RayBan is a classic example. It’s largely junk, and very overpriced.

With WP you get what you pay for. It’s far nicer than most Zenni, where you also get what you pay for. That said, they come out of adjustment easily and scratch if you look at them sideways. Their progressives are terrible.

They have also done a great disservice to the industry, intimating that all glasses are the same. They aren’t. European (excluding most of Italy), Japanese and US made frames are leagues better than WP. Hold an Anne et Valentin, a Lunor or a Masunaga, and you’ll realize that they are FAR nicer. Whether or not that matters to your financial priorities is another story.

Theo eyeglasses . Best pair I ever owned.

I haven’t worn WP but I agree that RayBan was a poor choice in terms of quality. I am not a person that likes to change glasses often so maybe WP is good if you like to change eyeglasses frequently?

I don’t change my glasses often. I have had my last pair for years. I also only wear them at night and when I am too tired to wear my contacts. My problem at brick and mortar stores is that I have a hard time finding narrow frames and I need narrow frames.

My problem wasn’t with the frame, it was the lenses and focal points being “off”.

My kids all have WP and really like them. They have several pairs. (prescription and blue light computer glasses) Good price for single vision but if you need more than that the price really goes up. We have in past bought them $800+ glasses (ie. Salt which I really) but since they are buying them now they feel paying $150 and replacing when they need to is better for their budget. I have thought about getting a spare pair from WP for me but as I remember adding everything I need for me is almost half what I would pay for a really good pair which I know will last me a longer.

Forgot to add that they did have a program where they will mail you a few pairs to try out but that may have changed.

@SweetTea - I actually have 5 pairs sitting here now. I think I will write down the ones I like but maybe next time I go to the big town near us, I will look for a different eye glass store or maybe I will order sunglasses and see how they turn out. I being able to try them on at home, I will say.

That was my kid’s issue. She went to three different optical places with prescription in hand and couldn’t even get anyone to help her. She found a great person at the Warby Parker store.

@eyemgh i hear what you are saying. I have seven pairs of Zenni glasses. No, they aren’t top quality frames…but mine came out of the shipping box and fit me perfectly. I haven’t had that luck at the $500 a pair optician(s) who also can’t seem to adjust the things well.

I have a funny RX, and I figured I would try one online pair. My first pair was $90…progressive lenses, anti scratch coating. I figured for $90 it was worth a shot. I know I’m lucky these work for me…they don’t work for everyone.

To the OP…if the cost is favorable, give them a try.

I have a complicated prescription, my husband has a very complicated prescription. His company for a while, made them order their prescription safety glasses from an on line retailer. He tried but never could get the focus correct. Our optometrist had to help him get the correct numbers and those worked, sort of.

For us, we would never order glasses on line. I used to get mine at a local place that specializes in high index glasses. One time when the kids were young, we tried for a cheaper option. But it was money wasted because they didn’t work and we got terrible headaches.

I think you get what you pay for but I am extremely particular with my eyesight.

Did you measure your own pupillary distance? Maybe that was the problem. Since I bought over $500 glasses at the optician at the eye doc, they filled in the pupillary distance for me.

I would recommend the Warby Parkers. I am on my second pair of Warby Parkers and I have an expensive pair of Italian-made glasses. My WP frames were in decent shape so I had my optometrist replace the lenses when my prescription needed tweaking.

I have progressives, but I only wear my glasses to read, watch tv,etc. Since I take them on and off, they drop all the time. Imagine falling onto parking lot when I step out of car …

For my money, it is far less painful to replace a $300 pair vs my $1000 pair (as in the time I accidentally threw my glasses in a trash compactor - ugh)

I had my eye doctor’s prescription.

They fell and I stepped on them. (Beautiful and great fitting Oliver People’s frames with my prescription :weary:)

Great thread because I need new glasses.

I have a colleague who has WP glasses that look great. He really likes them.

I’d be tempted but have a complicated prescription and wear progressives and have had less than stellar results when I have used lenses other than Varilux or Shamir, even from the optician.

Ime, you get where you pay for. But you may not need all that you get. That’s probably the call you need to make.
