convincing a professor to boost a B+ or A- after grades have been posted?

I've never done this. Did you?

once my soc teacher gave me a D+ by accident. i was suppost to get a B+. it sucked bc i had to send my trans. with my transfer apps. but then when it was all fixed- and even though it took forever- he gave me an A-

I have a friend who is the queen of persuading teachers. I have no idea how she does it. She just makes friends with the teachers, lets them know what's going on in her life (usually a lot of weird things happen to her!) She even goes to lunch with professors!

But seriously, a teacher will not give you a grade that you don't deserve, even to my friend - it's unethical and just plain unfair to the other students. The best way to go about this is to tell professors why you haven't gotten the best of grades (illlness, etc) and ask to do an extra credit assignment to make up the points.

Ive brought my grades from B- to A- just from charming my female teachers. It works for me all the time.

The men it doenst work on. but sometimes.

Last semester I KNOW I earned a B (maybe a B+ but I think it was a solid B) in my East Asian history class, but she gave me an A. The last day of class I talked to my teacher and told her how I was trying to get into Berkeley (her alma mater) and how I really need straight A's. I even started crying, though that wasnt planned. Then I miraculously got an A. Woot.

Ya, one time a teacher gave me a B and I got the grade half way over summer and I still had his phone # so, I called his voice mail and left him a message saying that I deserved an A. I thought He would never change it but I tried anyways. Then about 1.5 semesters later when I was checking my other grades and I saw that he changed it to an A... I was so surprised.

I got a B in one class in which the teacher made a mistake in calculating my final grades. He rightfully changed it to an A after a month or so.

nope, i'm gonna bug my music professor to change my grade. it doesn't matter anymore but it bugs me that he straight up LIED to me.

My econ teacher allowed me to retake the final a couple of quarters later. I didn't have it as easy as some of you guys, but I still got my second chance! Thanks, professor Keskinel!

In my accounting class I somehow ended up with a B+ (I'm talking BORDER B+ and A+, just 1 point away) and my professor allowed me to redo my homework assignments (honestly, I think there was a computer malfunction because I'm pretty sure that I completed the assignments) and extra credit (I completed the extra credit but she forgot to add it in). So, in the end it was just a fluke that I happened to end up with a B+ rather than my deserved A-.

The rest of my CCC career I didn't have any such problems and/or just didn't go out of my way to change my grade.

omg!...what cc do you guys go to?!

isn't it unethical to change a student's grade?! (i'm just jealous =P)

all i know was that my 3 absences dropped my grade from solid A to B+ and no matter what i said, my professor wouldn't change my grade =(

Wow you guys got damn good deals. My sweet deal was in my geography class and the professor bumped my B+ to A- because I was 1 point shy of A- and bulk of the grading is based on subjective stuff like essays and short answers.

Me: cmon, it's 89.4%. can't you just be nice and boost it up a tenth of a percent?

My geology professor: No.

Me: I attended every single class session and was never late. At least boost it up a bit for my perfect attendance!

My geology prof: No.

Me: I even spent like 5 hours writing my 10 page extra credit paper!

My geology prof: I'm sorry, but once it's done, it's over. B is still a good grade. Don't sweat over it.

Me: please~

Prof: No.

I wish my prof was as nice as some of the profs you guys have.

me too, my profs are such a holes.

being a girl it seems like it would be easy..u can flirt with the male professors and you can develop girlie bonds with the female professors (i haven't tried either yet lol and flirting with male professors as a thought creeps me out by itself)

in the end, developing a close bond with the professor shouldn't be the goal...the goal is to be real and get the material and ask for help..not just kiss ass and hope they start liking u

ESPECIALLY with math teachers. i have never developed a close bond with a math teacher, and if i ever do, i know it wouldn't change a thing bc math teachers are the coldest and the most 'by the book'...

The gospel according to CardinalFocused:

It never hurts to try; I tried (Wrote an satircal appeal for my brit lit class) and my prof invited me back to her office to further discuss the issue. I being lazy however, decided not to especially because I was probably going to change my major.

I have however heard successful stories of grade appeals.
