D2 notified online yesterday – accepted (nothing in the mail yet). She applied in mid September.

Congrats to both rach792 and mrsref’s d2: do you guys mind sharing what campus and program you applied to? I am just trying to get an idea of what letters have gone out so far.

Does anyone know anybody that applied for the second degree program? If so, have they heard anything yet? Can you tell this wait is driving me insane? lol :o

for D2: BSN at University Park. I don’t think she’ll be attending, she’s pretty excited about Pitt (was accepted there in October).

^^^^

Pitt is a much better program then PSU,thats terrific she’s been accepted there!!!Furthermore, her clinicals will be nearby the campus, whereas PSU nursing students need to schlep to Hershey for their final 2 years for clinicals, hence leaving the main campus…

Those are some of the reasons that Pitt has been her favorite from the beginning, but when she applied in September she had to have alternatives in case she didn’t get in at Pitt. I’m sure she would also be happy and be just fine at PSU if that’s the way things turned out.

Good luck to everyone else still waiting to be notified! It’s too bad D2 can’t pass along her acceptance to someone in the virtual community here. :(

I hope my post above isn’t taken wrong!!! I re-read it and it appears i am knocking PSU, which i am not…Just stating my opinion, fwiw, that i believe Pitt is a better program, for reasons mentioned…

My understanding for the nursing program is it is 1 year at Hershey. You have a choice of either junior or senior year. Some, however, like it so much, they go for 2 years to Hershey.

Nursing students participate in approximately 900 hours of diverse and educationally rewarding clinical experiences (click on the clinical site links). Nursing students spend one year (either junior or senior year) at the Hershey Medical Center Campus with the option to spend both years at Hershey (see Student Handbook for exceptions to this policy). Clinical facilities are located within a 50 mile radius of University Park or Hershey. Travel to and from clinical facilities is the student’s responsibility so the use of a vehicle is expected.

From Penn State Nursing Site

Note to college applicants - the above is why you take what people state with a grain of salt. Do the research yourself.

^^^^^

How is that any different then what i said?..Places like Pitt and other institutions in major cities afford you an easier " commute" then PSU to clinicals, wouldn’t you agree?..

"PSU nursing students need to schlep to Hershey for their final 2 years for clinicals, hence leaving the main campus… "

Simply not a true statement. You shouldn’t be giving out false information.

^^^
If a student “opts” to only do one year at Hershey, where specifically will their other (Junior or Senior) clinical hours be performed? Notice I said specifically. If they are going to stay at PSU (UP) for the other year what kind of schlepping will they actually need to do?

I would suggest that you get in touch with someone at the university, rather than depending on an anonymous board.

^^^
Good advice for anyone on an anonymous board…but we post here anyway.

It’s on their nursing website, where the clinicals are held.

^^^^
A list of possibilities are on the web site. Not specifically where Junior/Senior nursing students will go if they are not at Hershey. Here is a clue…it is not in UP.

it isn’t a “schlep” to Hershey? Of course it is, and ANY other clinical setting will likely be a “schlep” also…I think you would agree Miche? UP is about in the middle of nowhere one could get, so opportunities for clinicals are FAR AND WIDE…My D would have chosen 2 years at Hershey,if given the chance, and it would most definitely been a schlep, so i stand by my post…

^^^
Miche is evidently a freshman nursing student at PSU and is defensive about this issue.

And you, aglages, are obviously someone whose son or daughter (or yourself) was not admitted to PSU, as evidenced by your prior attacks on PSU in previous posts. Why do we need to go there? Why the negativity? People will read the facts and make the decisions based on their needs - you add absolutely nothing to the conversation. Relax.

^^^^
Not sure this is true, the comments are directed at WHERE the clinicals are held, and the distance from UP…I don’t recall any criticism of the program itself…

^^^
And my daughter did not apply to PSU. Her standards are too high. NOW I have criticized both the program AND the University in this thread. Still does not change where the PSU nursing students are required to do their clinicals during their Junior / Senior years. But nice try anyway…
