Anyone heard from Cal Poly Pomona yet?

I talked to an admissions counselor Friday who made it sound like it’d be a few more days before they start doing admits from the waitlist.

I got in with a 3.3 GPA and 1500 sat.
2 sports every year since freshmen year (varsity).
No D’s or F’s
got admitted on April 16th

Good to know angeleno23. Thanks

Just thought I’d let you all know that I have been accepted off the waitlist for Architecture transfer.

In the email, they said they only had 20 spots available for transfers in Arch.

^ congrats did you get an email first?

Thank you! Yea I got the email first. I don’t think they send out letters.

@neffyh Congrats. Did they give you a deadline on how quickly they need your response?

Any MechE’s? Anyone?

@neffyh, what are your stat? Did you finish all your prerequisites? Did other people from your school apply?

@mechist, On the emails they have sent me, they have specified May 1st as the due date for the enrollment fee. However, I think those letters are generic. On my to-do list on Broncodirect, it lists May 21st as the due date.

@petrarch, Well I am a transfer from Murrieta, CA. I have finshed all general ed. and have only taken 5 architecture courses at Palomar College in San Marcos this past year. I have a total of a 3.82 GPA and have been the treasure for Phi Theta Kappa and the treasurer/secretary for our architecture club at Palomar. Assist.org doesnt state any prerequisites for Architecture besides Physics and Calculus. I had finished those before taking any arch classes. I am not sure if others in my school have applied there.

Wow, a 3.8 transfer GPA and you just now got over the waitlist threshold! Doesn’t sound good for hopefuls out there. I believe other majors are easier than architecture.

@calypso123

He’s an arch major though. It’s so impacted that they should make a new tier of impaction just for it’s impaction level. You can’t really compare it to the other impacted majors like engineering, animal science, etc.

well that scares the hell out of me. 3.8 GPA and got put on the waitlist, meaning there is a waitlist for transfers, I just didn’t get on it.

Arch majors have a wait list for transfers but other impacted majors don’t considering architecture is the hardest major to get into at cpp.

I was wait-listed and I found out yesterday as well that I was accepted for architecture.

I’m a transfer student with a 3.4 GPA, I wasn’t expecting to get in, but I guess the portfolio made up for the GPA, also I received a D in calc last semester so I guess they really didn’t care about that grade.

I was wondering if the portfolio was what made the final decision to be honest. My portoflio is not the best I have seen, so I was wondering if they use it as a decision maker. On their waitlist letters and such, they strictly said, and emphasized, that they only use if for placement purposes. That is, what year you should be place once you get it. I think they rank you by GPA and such.

@DerangedCorgi,

I am not sure I am understanding your grammar, but Architecture is and has been one of the most impacted majors at CPP for quite some time now. Here are some acceptance rates for the more popular majors.

Animal Health Science: 18%
Architecture 25%
Animal Science: 32%
Electrical Engineering: 34%
Mechanical Engineering 39%
Civil engineering: 43%
Biology: 47%
Aerospace Engineering: 76%

Honestly I don’t know what the admissions office is doing by waiting this late to admit a 3.8 transfer GPA and accepting people with lower qualifications months ago. All other universities send out colorful and glossy acceptance packages in the mail and put value in the admissions process. All I got from CPP when I got admitted was a lousy change of status on my Bronco Direct. This seems to be happening year after year.

I think they’re being overly picky only to lower the admissions standards late in June when everyone’s already committed to go somewhere else. CPP is a great school, but the admin is a joke! Hang in there everyone…

@petrarch,

My comment is pretty straight forward…

"He’s an arch major though. It’s so impacted that they should make a new tier of impaction just for it’s impaction level. You can’t really compare it to the other impacted majors like engineering, animal science, etc. "

"Arch majors have a wait list for transfers but other impacted majors don’t considering architecture is the hardest major to get into at cpp. "

The first comment implies that architecture is so impacted that you can’t compare it to the other impacted majors (note that I said Animal science, not animal health science. The two are NOT the same). What I jokingly said was that they should introduce another impaction level for architecture, e.g. tier 1 impaction, tier 2 impaction, etc. The second comment… well there’s no implication there (for transfers).

You basically just repeated what I said.

got it. thanks!

Just to clarify…aerospace is 40%…not 76%.
