Well, as of now, I am looking to become an art teacher. I’d probably like to focus in painting or a 3D study. However, I differ fro myour daughter in aesthetics. I like to experiment, I’ve painted using glue, food coloring, burning spray paint, and some other weird stuff I seem to find.
However, I also dislike the party atmosphere. I have friends, but it’s not like we’re attached at the waist. I spend most of my weekends at home rather than out with friends, and I completely enjoy doing so.
Academics have been are huge part of my life. I’ve taken the hardest course my school offers and I’m in the top ten. I know keeping up on my academics may now help me find a job, but while at school I wouldn’t mind to take a calculus class or biology class. It seems that it would be easy to do at RISD with Brown, but I’m not sure about MCIA or Pratt.

To hoveringmom and brianm02: Yes, that scholarship was need-based and not merit-based. My FAFSA EFC is only around $4050. The 30,000 is as far as I know only for this year and not divided over the next four years or anything. Guess this means that I’ll be working nonstop until next fall! ;)

brian, Pratt does offer liberal arts classes as well as all their art classes. It’s not a huge selection but you can check it out on their website by clicking on academics. They don’t offer any foreign languages though.

Hi entangled0120, you got great scholarships. Would you please tell me what these scholarships are? I though RISD doesnt offer a lot of scholarships and financial aid?

brianm02 conrats for pratt, its a really good school ! im going to apply to the same schools you did next year so well c what happens !
btw u mentioned ur an internation student, from where are you ?

oh ok, i thought u were an internation student ! ya well pratt is a really good school, im really afraid i wont get accepted but hopefully i will. but good luck :)

To kat1110: I think that RISD offers need-based scholarships to first-year applicants, but I don’t know about merit-based. I think that it’s pretty much the same deal with any other college: the more they want you, the more money they will give you. On the website, RISD says that it gives around $500 to $27500 to students every year. They are one loaded art school (go check their endowment on US News and World Report!), so I am very appreciative of what they have done for me.

To brianm02: I hope that you go for MICA, it is beautiful and is the first art school that I fell in love with from afar (never visited, just drooled over it as a high school freshman!). Congratulations on getting in!

To all prospective art students: I think that in building your portfolio, you shouldn’t feel limited by the lack of offerings in your high school, and that what you make out of what you have really shines through if you are able to excel in it. Brianm02’s comment on how there wasn’t a painting class just reminded me that I never took one painting class in all my four years, and really, all I did was draw, with the exception of one oil paint experiment that I tossed into my portfolio (which doesn’t depict how anyone should paint!).

There’s a great facebook page about RISD–acceptances, wait list info, etc. look for lucys RISD Admissions 101. It’s a wealth of info, and you can ask questions about what the waiting list means, how many people are on it, what they’re looking for, etc.

to entangled, congrats on your award! I got 30,000 too! And actually, it is 4-year-renewable so you can expect 30,000 each year for the next four years Actually, more because they take inflation into cost (when the cost of the school goes up, so does your aid)
I’m so excited! Are you for sure going?

I got accepted into RISD and got about 35K for financial aid. i was elated when i found out! the letter came in like, 5 days late. i was thinking i didnt get in because it came so much later than i thought it would. that whole week was the most stressful week of my life!
