My daughter is at Steinhart NYU, but I believe the fact that she is waitlisted means she did get in academically. And, don’t mark NYU off yet if that is high on her list. We have a friend who was on the waitlist in Tisch at this point last year, placed a deposit down on another school (which you should definitely do by May 1, and make sure it is one your d would happily be at) and a couple of weeks into May got off the waitlist into Tisch, and has enjoyed a productive year in NYC at NYU! Since so many kids auditioned for so many schools each, once minds are made up and kids start saying 'No, thank you" to all the ones they won’t attend, the dominos really start to fall!!!

and I’ve seen elsewhere on cc that it is not uncommon for students to decide not to go to Tisch due to expense- thus letting more in off the wait list…

that she wants to get in… follow up with another great recommendation if you can, hold your hands and wait. If you come off the wait list, they notify you the day after the deposits are due. We received a telephone call. D is graduating in 3 whoohoo its been a fantastic experience… if she goes take advantage of every travel abroad you can, d did summers and winters…Italy, Amsterdam, Puerto Rico, Cuba. Really like that they are treated as adults.

Will Tisch tell you how many are on the waitlist? It used to be that there wasn’t a waitlist. Tisch would accept ~500 overall in order to yield the ~300 they wanted in order to fill each studio. If they’re still accepting that many, then the chances of getting off the waitlist would be pretty slim. Unless, of course, it’s a waitlist only for MT, which might be the case. I don’t see anything wrong with your D calling to inquire about that.

Hi there Blue Skies 1108, My husband called and if you were wait listed, this is for the department of theater and he was told that there are very few wait listed. My daughter is like yours above 4.0 and 26 ACT. She also felt like this was one of her very best auditions. A very smart girl, but just not a great standardized test taker, and we did not have the time to train to get a better score. She took this hard last night, but feeling better today. Best wishes for your daughter, looks like she has some really amazing choices!!!

@showgirlsmama – true. S got “financial aid” notification today and received offer of $66K in loans. We are not surprised, as this was indicated by our FAFSA numbers, but S has received extensive merit aid at other schools. Zero from NYU. (We were warned that merit aid was unlikely, so I’m only sharing as an FYI. We’re not upset.) What’s funny is that although NYU Tisch has always been on the dream school list, some of the other smaller (and more generous) schools have bubbled up through the auditions/Unifieds process. I don’t think NYU has the same cache for S as it did 1-2 years ago. And studio placement may affect this, as well. ;)

XXOSTAGE - Thanks so much for your response - I find it fascinating that your D has the exact same academic profile. I’m suspicious based on who we know who got in that if my D had a 31 on her ACT instead of a 26 that it might have made a difference. When your husband called and they told him the department of theater - does that mean that she wasn’t waitlisted for the MT program?

We are going to visit CCM this weekend and Monday. We haven’t been there yet… assuming she likes it there we will let this waitlist go… if she doesn’t like it… not sure what we will do - but yes - she is lucky and will be just fine!

Best of luck to you and your D!

@ Blueskies1108 My daughter checked off to be considered for all studios, but since she is strong in dance, I don’t think she would be happy in a studio where she would have to dance outside of school. MT seems to have the most dance training. Seems like a lot of people who were accepted don’t actually know which studio yet, I’m not sure how this wait list thing works??? Just that she is wait listed for one of the studios.

Just like you I wonder if having a few extra points on the ACT would have made the difference. : /

We are also going to visit Otterbein to see if my daughter likes it, but have to wait a couple of weeks do to dance commitments. YIKES! She did get the warm and fuzzies at her audition, so I am hopeful she will love it there! : D We live in Oregon, far from all these programs.

I have heard “AMAZING” things about CCM! I hope your daughter feels at home when you visit. What a wild and crazy roller coaster ride this has been!

Cheers and here’s to our girls future!

@XXOSTAGE Thanks for the previous info about the number of people waitlisted! Gave me hope as I was originally disappointed. (:

What do you mean by “waitlisted for one of the studios”? Were you informed about which studio your D has been considered for?

This is likely a matter of semantics. My guess is that they said the Drama program. The degree at Tisch is a BFA in Drama, not MT. The studio which offers MT training is a part of the Drama Department.

Hi All, I just checked with my husband and in our case since my daughter asked to be considered for all Tisch studios she could be wait listed for any of them, depending on where they see her. He thinks if you asked to only be considered only for the MT studio and were wait listed that you are wait listed for the MT studio. I hope this makes sense. My daughter is heavy on the acting/dance side so she thought being considered for all studios would be a good option for her, although she was hoping for the MT studio.
Best wishes for all wait listed and congrats to those who got in!
