Heeeello. Just wanted to ask if anyone knows when admitted students to Tisch’s BFA Theatre program for the class of 2016 will be informed which studio they have been selected for. A rough estimate would be awesome :)

Within 2 weeks.

Has anyone been directly in touch with the drama department and have anything more specific that they have heard regarding a date to release studio decisions?

I just called 212-998-1900 and was told by the young man answering the phone that studio assignments will be emailed next week.

My daughter called yesterday and was told the same thing.

Thanks! I called earlier this week and was told the assignments had already been made but they were being filed (whatever that means) and that we’d know within a week or so. “Within a week or so” and “next week” are still a bit ambiguous when you are waiting.

Does anyone have the inside scoop on how they actually decide who goes where? Non-MT that is…

MOMMY5, I have no clue, nor inside scoop. But our funny story is when DS was accepted two years ago into Tisch, and we were all anxiously awaiting his studio assignment. He had some friends over to the house, and he was describing the audition/acceptance process at Tisch. “Getting into Tisch is like getting into Hogwarts”, he said. “Then a magic sorting hat separates the new students into the different houses … er studios, based on what’s best for the student and the school”. We all laughed, but it’s the best explanation I’ve ever heard. ;)

I think studio assignments come out April 13. I’m currently a sophomore at Tisch, and I know for a fact that that’s the day when we all hear the results of all the transfer track auditions, so it’d make sense for them to release the freshmen assignments that day as well.

^^^That would make a lot of sense but last year they came out on 4/7. Do you know if that coincided with the transfer track results?

When is this year’s accepted student event for Tischies? In my experience, the studio assignments come out before that event takes place. I recall studio assignments coming out one week after acceptances in the past.

April 13 sounds late to me.

Weekend on the Square is on the 14th-15th. It has been over a week since the NYU admission decisions came out.

April 13th sounds late to me too based on previous years’ notification dates. Well anything beyond 5 minutes after one was accepted starts to feel like an eternity :)

I know what you mean about the wait for this! It’s funny how such moments are etched in my memory. Here is my anecdote from my D’s admissions year…

She received the NYU acceptance while in the hospital and not in great shape. Actually, I was living in her hospital room as well and I recall getting online and seeing on CC about these invitations to Saturday in the Square, which I knew nothing about until then and back then, if you got one of those, and these did come before official acceptance letters, it was indication you were going to be accepted as you were invited to the accepted student event. So, that night when my husband went back home (we live an hour from the hospital), he opened the mail and called us at the hospital to tell us about my D receiving that invitation and she yelped for joy, as she had a dream about going there since age 12. The nurses even ran into the room to see if everything was OK and I explained it was tears of joy! Such great medicine!

After the hospital stay, she then was confined to a hospital bed in our living room for a while. One day I got the mail and it was a letter about her scholarship and my eyes popped out of my head as I had no idea such a thing was possible there. I recall this all happened as a visiting nurse was at the house injecting a shot in my daughter’s stomach. Ugh. Such a happy moment otherwise.

Then, we kept wondering which studio??? My D held acceptances to various MT programs and was waiting to hear if she got the MT studio at Tisch. I wasn’t as aware back then how long it was supposed to take to find out and so I called and asked Tisch when we would find out and they were going to mail them that day in snail mail and shockingly the person on the phone told me the studio! CAP21! My D was in the hospital bed in the living room several feet away and friends were calling on her and she shouted for joy and of course the friends had no idea the significance of that call (they were not MT applicants!!).

Lastly, I recall my D wanted to attend Saturday in the Square even though she knew she was picking Tisch over her other acceptances. Also, she had been selected as something called a Tisch Scholar, which is a program that has since been discontinued but there was a special luncheon that day for the accepted Tisch Scholars too. And the event was the first day she was going to be allowed out of a hospital bed and we made the car journey to NYC but given getting around the city, she had to be in a wheelchair and she really didn’t want any of the accepted students to see her in a wheelchair and wonder why she was accepted for MT. The Tisch people knew the situation. Anyway, as it turns out, one of her bestest friends of all from her four years at Tisch and beyond is a girl who did MT with her there who is truly confined to a wheelchair full time for life. Watch out world, that friend is about to make it big.

So, that’s how I recall it all going down! I’m sure all of you will remember these moments!

PS, one more memory of the accepted student event at Tisch…for 6 weeks, I had to inject a shot into my D’s stomach of medication. Imagine having to do THAT! So, when we went to the Saturday in the Square event, we had to go into a bathroom at Tisch and I had to shoot her with a shot there! Ugh. But we did get the sweatshirt and the car decal! :D

Oh my. If this were the scene in Notting Hill where friends sitting around the dining table compete for the brownie and the subject was emotional stories involving launching your kid off to college, you win hands down.

At least it had a happy ending!! :)

@soozievt - Great story of perseverance and determination - truly an MT story. My D was also awarded a Tisch scholarship in her acceptance letter, but unfortunately, we will not able to make it to the Weekend on the Square this April due to our distance. She will miss going back to NYU again 3 years after her very first college tour. She still clearly remembers our college tour guide in “his denim white shorts, red plaid shirt and thick black-rimmed glasses” whose passion about NYU and honest feedback on the realities of NYU life (including financial aid) greatly influenced my D that she ended up writing about him on his NYU supplemental essay.

Like the rest of the posts here, D is also waiting for the studio assignment which will be a factor in making that BIG difficult but pleasant decision. It’s good to have great choices :)

@halflokum - nice movie and agree, happy ending :)

Jbehlend, I love that Hogwarts explanation! I will pass that on.

So are most of you hoping for Musical Theatre (New Studio)?

Susan, I just heard news about her last week. I’m sure it’s the same news you’re referring to, and I’m very happy for her! Such a talent.

called again today; was told they’d be emailed “by the end of the week”

Ya Hoo! Just heard the news re: Ali!
