tom<3avenueq - I do know that the Saturday In the Square invite in the past has not gone out to all those who have been accepted for Tisch. For example, none of the ED students will receive such an invite, and also only a small group of RD admitted students typically gets invited. I have been wondering the same thing however, especially if anything is different this year since Washington Square is "under construction".

While I have no inside information, I feel certain NYU/Tisch will continue with the Saturday in the Square invitations to selected accepted students. This is an open house event that takes place in early April. Yes, these invitations come out before the official acceptances come out. If you get an invitation, you will be accepted on April 1. If you don't get an invitation, you could still be accepted. I don't think any construction in Washington Square has any impact on this event. The event was not LITERALLY in the square. :D Some of it was at Skirball and some at Tisch and so on. I would imagine the invitations might be forthcoming around next week, based on years past.

Saturday in the Square invitations are for some selected accepted students to ALL of Tisch.....not just Tisch Drama....but also Film, Dance, Recorded Music, Dramatic Writing and so on. To be clear, this includes the BFA for Drama and also CAP students.

When you get accepted to Tisch/NYU......you are not assigned a studio. A letter telling you which studio you are placed in comes about a week after the OFFICIAL acceptance (the official acceptance is about April 1 or the week before and the studio placement is about a week after that). Nobody is getting to find out which studio they are placed in NOW. However, if at your audition, you specified, for example, that you would only accept CAP21 studio and would not consider another studio, then if you are accepted, you got that studio. If you gave a second or third choice studio (which actually increases your odds of acceptance), you don't know which studio you got until the studio placement letter comes AFTER the official acceptance arrives, which BOTH notifications are AFTER the invitation to Saturday in the Square.

If you receive an invitation to Saturday in the Square (which seem to be going out now) , that means you are accepted to Tisch Drama. You won't know your studio for a while, unless you had said "CAP only." But those who do get into CAP21 could be invited to Saturday in the Square (example, my D was invited to it and eventually was placed in CAP21, which was a notification that came later).

Thank you soozievt for the insight. Do you know if anyone has gotten an actual acceptance letter yet vs an invite? I don't suppose there's any way to know the number of invites vs. the number of acceptances or how they invite some and not others?

Sorry for the run on questions! Though it's thrilling to hear about the acceptances coming out now, it's getting harder for my D to wait and wonder. A few of her friends have gotten into CMU and CAP21 and I could tell she was a little broken when she got home from rehearsal tonight. NYU was what she felt was her best audition and the doubt is slowly creeping in.

Sarasmom, no actual official acceptance packages have been mailed. That will happen in a couple of weeks. I don't think that Tisch or NYU has ever revealed the actual percentage of accepted students who receive an invitation to the SIS events. In the past, they have indicated that the first invitations go out to the top applicants, in an effort to 'convince' them to attend NYU. Don't give up hope yet! As I posted in another thread, many more kids receive acceptances than the number who receive these invitations. Keeping good thoughts for your D and the others who will hear sometime around April 1. :)

Saras mom we are also waiting to hear from NYU (and a few others). My D is for acting only, had a great audition, felt good about it and the auditioner spent a lot of time with her. In fact after she left the audition, she realized that they had discussed the experimental theater quite a bit and now she could see herself there, among other places in and out of NYU.

My main point in the last thread, the kids have done all they can do. Now real life stuff happens and no matter what, they will be okay. Very fortunate kids to have these opportunities and I am proud of all for taking advantage of them!

AlwaysAMom already answered your question. I would say the same. Nobody got the official letters of acceptance from NYU/Tisch yet. Those come out around April 1 or a little before. All that has gone out are the invitations to this open house event for selected admitted students (called Saturday in the Square). As she mentions, not every accepted student will get this invitation. They can't accommodate everyone on that day (they accept a very large number to yield the final number) but have this event to attract some who were admitted to enroll. So, it is quite possible to still be admitted when decision letters come out even if not receiving such an invitation to the SIS event. I agree with AlwaysAMom, that I have never heard mention of what percentage of admitted Tisch students receive this invitation, sorry.

That said, I feel for you and understand the stress and anxiety if peers are getting in and your D is still waiting and so forth. These schools are so highly selective and you can be very qualified and still not get in. (example, I have a student who just got into Tisch who was denied at UArts) And so, realistically speaking, one has to come to EXPECT rejections in this process and look at the overall results come April 1 and hope to have at least one acceptance in hand and hopefully a choice. That usually DOES happen if one's college list is appropriate and balanced. And so while we are in the thick of it now and all this really feels like a very very big deal, I can tell you that usually a child does land somewhere and usually they can be quite happy at where they land, even if that is not the school that was their initial "wish" school. Things have a way of working out in the end. I know it is hard to see that big picture now in the thick of this, but truly if a student liked every college on her list for one reason or another (and she should have if she applied), then she will go to college next year and things will work out. Keep the faith. All is not riding on a couple of schools. And not getting into certain ones is not necessarily a commentary on your talent. Look at the big overall picture when this process is done.

Soozievt, You are always so helpful and I sincerely thank you for your continued responses. I have read most of your posts (well not all 9,000+ but this year's) and you are my expert. I only wish I had known about this before to assist my D more and possibly open up more choices. But she was committed to the 5 schools she auditioned and truly wanted to do it that way. She has several friends in colleges all over the nation that she corresponded with for her information. I guess you are at a performing arts high school? Or college? You could be a therapist as you seem to be providing a level of comfort now.

Poohie, I am glad that you have found some of my posts to be helpful. I do like helping people and volunteer to post. I also post wearing my mom hat too. :)

No, I am not at a high school or college, nor am I a therapist! I am a college counselor who assists students and their families with the college selection and admissions process, including those seeking theater/MT programs, but not limited to that field. I am a college counselor here at College Confidential.

As I said, I am also a mother and so have been through this experience of college admissions twice with my own two daughters (one of whom is pursuing a BFA in MT) and now again with one of my Ds who is a current applicant to graduate schools of architecture (and we are in the thick of it this week too and so I can relate to all of you!!)

Maybe some day we can meet and have a cup of joe....I sincerely owe you more than that. Your gifted D's did not fall far from the tree! My D has state literary tomorrow and she is still on clear liquids. As a performer she knows it won't be sharp and her best, but she has accepted that. The show must go on...(She is doing a dialogue from 'Night Mother....mother/daughter. Not intense at all!!) HA :)
