Well i just destroyed my life not that bad but still...
Im an aspiring doctor and i just got a 1640 on my first sat...1100 composite
Not good ikr..anyone got any tips of stuff im feelin rlly depressed atm.
I am a junior in HS atm. I feel like i destroyed my life..So much pressure from my family to become a doctor its killing me inside :(

bumpppppppppp

You’re only a junior and it’s really early in your Junior year. Study up and retake the SATs… you have PLENTY of time!

The SATs aren’t that hard if you study for them.

A lot of people think that they’re equivalent to IQ tests (i.e. studying won’t help) but that’s the opposite. You should be able to get every SAT/ACT question if you had unlimited time. The trick is getting used to the timing so you can solve each question quicker.

I got a 35 on my ACT after spending two weeks doing virtually nothing but practice tests. To put that into perspective, I was getting 29-31 on my practice tests and my best previous ACT was a 29 from 8th grade. I can attest to the value of practice.

It’s only part-way into your junior year. You have a whole year to retake the SAT. Instead of worrying about your chances or feeling destroyed, do something about it: study. The first SAT is always difficult for everyone (except for a few), because you don’t know how the test goes, questions are new, etc. The biggest help in improving your score is simply to retake it. Add studying to the equation, and you’ve got a major boost in SAT score.

At the same time, your life is not over if you don’t get 2200+ SAT and get into an Ivy or a major medical school. There are still great medical schools you can get into that don’t require top stats. And even then, where you go is not as important as what you do at where you go. You can be awesome and get into a place like John’s Hopkins, but if you slack your butt off, there’s no meaning to it.

Don’t weigh yourself down by grief. There’s no need to right now, and it’ll only make more trouble.

It sounds like your family expects you to be a doctor, but what do YOU want? It’s probably too early to tell.

I know that, in many cases, it’s hard to stray from the path that your parents seem to be setting for you. But most colleges and universities have pre-med programs. So if your test scores do end up keeping you out of the most selective schools, you’ll still have tons of options. And you may, in fact, end up at a place where your talents and motivation will make you a star and where your top grades and participation in faculty-research projects will help pave your way to med school, if indeed you decide that’s where you truly want to head.

Meanwhile, you can also sample a broad range of other areas to help you determine if medicine is really for you. Keep in mind that a “pre-med” program is just a list of recommended courses in a range of departments … bio, chem, physics, English, math, usually social sciences, too. So you can fulfill these requirements without committing to medicine right away and by majoring in a seemingly unrelated field.

It may be hard to realize it now, but so-so SAT’s can end up being a blessing in disguise.

Well ik that i can retake the SAT’s but if you browse the SAT forum here it seems that everone here is a genious. I am wondering if any of u have any “real advice” for the SAT because MY dream is to get into the Baylor/BCM program so i dont have to go through taking the MCAT. And Sally Rubenstone I want to be a doctor but the added pressure from my parents isnt helping it.

…bump
