Anyone here apply EA for Fall 2012?

Hey Nova88
Check your inbox, I keep trying to send messages. Not sure if it’s working! :(

Well gang, tomorrow starts a new week of anticpation at the mailbox for those of us who have not yet received an EA decision (including my S)! Hopefully we all had a great ime with friends and family over the holiday weekend. Best of luck to everyone this week!! :)

Deferred. :frowning: Letter says they need more info. Already sent first quarter grades and emailed counselor, never even received a reply. Solidly disappointed.

yoooo, nova, what were your stats like? it’s a bit easier to gauge how you’ll end up if we know. best of luck to you regardless, man

AWWWW - I’m really sorry. :frowning:
We are still waiting for today’s mail …

Nova 88 . . . I will join the deferred club as well. I guess we fill out the supplemental information requested and wait until March. I am really disappointed, but not much I can do at this point.

My son got his acceptance and Provost scholarship a few weeks ago and we look forward to going back and visiting the engineering school which he has not seen yet (wasn’t set yet on Engineering when he took tour). For those deferred, I will say that my daughter was deferred in December in 2008 and was very disappointed. They had her fill out a questionnaire in early January, and wanted her semester grades, then she got accepted a few weeks later before the semester was over. You may not need to wait until March. If SMU is a first choice - really let them know.

p.s. and be sure the student is doing all the corresponding, not the parent.

Thank you so much for this info!
We are bracing ourselves for a deferral at this point. My daughter has not heard yet, but two boys she knows in SF were accepted over a week ago, and this week we are only hearing about people getting their deferrals. Someone in the admissions office had told her notifications were being mailed in random order … but it’s not really looking that way.
SMU is absolutely her first choice, and she will be really heartbroken if they don’t accept her.

I applied early action and was accepted and it is currently my first choice. Schools that aren’t going to tell me until March are (unfortunately) falling lower on the list.

Still haven’t heard from SMU and I applied in September. What are some gpa/SAT stats for those already accepted? Getting kind of anxious

Katieloftn:
I applied in November right before the EA deadline. And I heard around Christmas. You may not have hit the early action choice and won’t hear till March…if you haven’t heard yet that’s probably what happened. The regular pools of applicants are usually easier to break through.

Received my beautiful red package on 12/16, BBA Scholar (Cox School of Business) invitation on 12/21, University Honors Program invitation on 1/12. Still waiting for Pre-Law Scholars program - my first choice, and they’re making me wait the longest for that one! Received Provost’s scholarship $12k/yr (not the highest level merit scholarship they offer). Stats are class rank 6/106, GPA 4.4 weighted, SAT 710(r) 740(m) 750(w), lots of sports, class presidents two years, church involvement.

Good luck everyone! Hope to meet you in the Fall of 2012 - unless I end up at Tulane, who gave me $25k/yr :)

Kjb: so you are admitted directly to the Cox school of business? My acceptance said nothing about my intended Marketing major. Should I be worried? I am a provosts scholar and applied for Hunt.

@ jamiehinz: Did you list Business Administration as your first choice major? If you are not sure, you may want to call your admissions advisor. I listed BA as major #1 on my EA app and received the invitation to the Cox Business School one week after receiving the red envelope.

Good luck to you and hope to see you in the lawn on picture day for the class of 2016!

KJB, are you an in state student? I ask because you received your acceptances 1 to 3 days before me :). I received the University Honors Program invitation today! I’m a double major with Liberal Arts as my second, so the UHP is everything I’m interested in from the LA side. I hope you choose SMU over Tulane since Dallas has so much to offer and SMU professors are fabulous. Since I’m from oos, I visited the school several times and sat in on classes at Dedman and Cox. I was impressed with all the professors I met!

Back in June, SMU was not at the top of my list; it was one of 8 schools with Vandy, UTAustin, Davidson, WF and UVA rounding out the top. I visited the aforementioned, including invitation-only sessions for the honors programs. I left Texas schools for the second part of the summer and SMU was the last school I visited after spending four days in Austin. After one day at SMU, I asked if I could return the next day to tour Cox. On my flight back home I knew SMU was the school for me - size is >2 thousand but 15< , Cox, small classes, gorgeous campus, great surrounding community, reputation on the rise and of course Dallas. Long story short, I trimmed my college list down to 4 with SMU on the top spot.

Good luck to you and hope to meet you at Virginia-Snider in the fall!

ponytail2016 - Sorry, just saw this post that my son made on my account (we’re sharing a cc account - probably not a good idea, kind of confusing for us and everyone else!)

We’re from Houston. Just received Pre-Law Scholars invitation today - S is SOOO excited! He was also admitted to UT McCombs, and we visited there again last Wednesday - VERY impressive - but SMU is still at the top of his list. We need to make one more trip to the Big D to decide for sure. Then there’s COA - my husband and I are both CPAs - we need to convince ourselves that it is worth an additional $11k/yr for an undergraduate education vs. a public school (i.e. UT). Our kids have attended private schools their whole lives, so we’re not at all opposed to paying for education, just need to ensure the ROI is there.

Best of luck to you - are you any closer to a decision?
