Anyone here in Mu Alpha Theta?

A senior who the president of the club last year wanted me to continue the club so I am now the president. But I don't know what to do for the club. Anyone here in Mu Alpha Theta? Do you guys enter like competitions or something? What do you guys do?

And anyone in Acadec/Envirothon? How good is your school at acadec/envirothon?

OMG......YOUR THE President, but you don't know what to do.......
Our school is top in the nation, we have currently 160 students enrolled in the prestigious math honor society.

My schools Mu Alpha Theta is only like 10 kids or something. I just joined like 2 weeks ago. We compete in the "Oahu Mathematics League" against other schools from around the island.

Hey GPAx213, congrats on being president! I was president of my school's chapter of Mu Alpha Theta back in the day, and it was a lot of fun. What you do is really all dependent on the size and motivation of your school. At my high school, MAO was a huge deal, we went to all the competitions and did pretty well (2nd in the nation for my last two years of high school, they were 1st last year). The competitions are really only a subset of MAO, and definitely not a requirement for each chapter. Mainly your responsibilities lie in promoting math activities at your school and running social events. Have a meeting every month or so, maybe set up a math tutoring program, and then you run induction at the end of the year. That is what I did (besides the competitions). It really isn't that much work. Have fun!

Yeah, I was unanimously voted for president although I had no idea what the club was about. They said the club is supposed to meet once every week, and I have to plan out activities for the club to do. Lol so MAO is a big deal huh? Promoting math activities + running social events should not be that hard. Are the competitions national thing? Where do the competitions usually take place?

I LOVE MU ALPHA THETA!!!!!!! Yes, there are competitions, and you activities could include Pi Day selling (sell pie on 3/14), fundraising for competitions, etc.

uh there are various activites

we have a math scavenger hunt and its like you have to solve problems and the answers are room numbers or lockers and you go to the room/locker to get the next problem and the winners get prizes (you work in groups)
theres also a pi day celebration and they have pi day contests (posters, songs,etc--usually of the comical nature) and teachers give extra cred for participating and on 3/14 there is food and tehy give out prizes

math scavenger hunt... hmm I think I am going to try that. Thanks

I'm in Mu Alpha Theta. My school consistantly place top 10 at nationals in the last 10 years.

I one thing I hate is that my math team advisor is mean and scary.
