does anyone know if freshmen can join the parson's mounted calvary? and can anyone join or do u have to be selected? or any other requirements? thanks

Parson’s consists of Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors. You cannot join your freshman year. And it is something you have to apply and be selected for.

Don’t join. I heard the Corp is full of ******bags.

Wow, 123abc456. That’s pretty rude. You are basically calling my son a “*******bag”. Any group has it’s less than ideal members. But there are many fine young men and women in the Corps.

I agree, every group has them. Whether it’s a FLO a Frat, etc. it can be said about anyone; maybe it’s just a tad bit easier to pick on the corps though because they’re the most different from all of the other “non-regs” on campus. I’ve met some strange ones in the corps but I’ve also met some cool people.

Dont give 123abc456 the satisfaction of a response please. He obviously isn’t making it at A&M - trying to transfer to the University of Michigan… he is probably better suited there. His post have been about how low a gpa can you have to transfer in and how to Qdrop classes at A&M. Just an unhappy person.

I am very sorry. I did not mean to call your son that, and I take it back. I really do, and I’m truly sorry. I was just saying what I heard about the Corp and I’m pretty sure your son is great guy.

Wow, too far man. Why are you calling me out on wanting to transfer? Yea sure, I want to transfer, but it’s not as if I hate A&M. My senior year, Michigan was my #1 choice and I didn’t get in. I wasn’t too excited about coming to A&M (I admit that), but now that I’m here, I really like it and I’m having a great time. As for the Q-drop, I was having a tough time in one of my classes last semester, but I ended up passing it. Damn, chill out!

Thank you, 123abc456. I appreciate the apology.

123abc456 - Your apology sounds heartfelt and sincere. All of us at A&M are proud of our Corps even though we all know it is not the life for everyone. Years ago when I came to A&M you heard a lot of talk about Corps members but it was all considered “good bull” back then. Don’t know if they still use that term but even so this is a good lesson to everyone about being careful what we pass on as “I heard”.

I’m glad that you are enjoying Aggieland now - I know it is hard to be away from home.

123abc456 - I am sorry I called you out.
I do not appreciate your completely random remark. So yes - it totally made me angry. There are tons of ■■■■■■ on these college boards, thoes who love making rude remarks. Just a few quick looks at your recent post and I could see your issue.
I apologize for calling you out.

How does the Corps relate to ROTC? My son is out of state and thinking about ROTC. Recently he’s talking about TAMU and VA Tech because they both have a Corps.

A&M is considered a Senior Military College (one of 6 in the US, includig VA Tech). As such they are different from other ROTC units throughout the country in that you can participate all four years in the Corps without a military obligation if you so choose. About half of each senior class is on contract with their respective services and will commission upon graduation. The other half are considered DNC (drill & no ceremony) and will receive a “Leadership” program certificate, but will be civilians upon graduation.

Thanks. It looks like a place he should visit for “spend the night”.
