any inspirational stories about school, or inspirational music?
I don't really listen to a specific group, I just listen to whatever sounds good.
So

Listen to heavy metal. There are different sorts for those who like rap, rock, or classical. So many subgenres it's not even funny.

I think Dragonforce would be inspirational.

Of course you should listen to Slayer.

dude itsn't slayer like slipknot?
uhhh....Notr really into the whole screaming concept.
Yeah...

***?

Slipknot isn't even music, let alone metal. Neither is Korn. All that nu metal bullcrap isn't popular anymore.

Listen to Slayer, it's not screaming, trust me. Listen to some Slayer on YouTube.

Slayer has been around for more than 25 years and still retains its original lineup.

Which song dude? Don't get so mad, ..........

Chill dude. Take a chill pill.

Raining Blood is their most popular song. It's pretty old but it's still a very popular song in the metal culture. It's also featured on Guitar Hero 3.

The song that got me to listen to them was the music video for "Eyes of the Insane". You should see it. It's about a soldier suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

raining blood...just listened to it.

Not my taste.

OK

Then go listen to some mainstream stuff like Soulja Boy.

OOOOOOOO UUUUUUUUUUU OOOOOOOOOOO UUUUUUUUUUU OOOOOOOOOOOO UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU Supaman.

I'd recommend Pandora Radio - Listen to Free Internet Radio, Find New Music, enter your favorite music group and it will pull songs that are similar to your tastes. It knows your favorite music better than you do.

Wow dude, wow. lol

Thanks for the link.

check out some As I Lay Dying! like 94 hours, nothing left, and the sound of truth

Nile is inspirational. YouTube - Nile - Sarcophagus

Behemoth, too. YouTube - BEHEMOTH - Slaves Shall Serve

Dimmu Borgir cheers me up on rainy days. YouTube - Dimmu Borgir - The Serpentine Offering

And Opeth (not being tongue-in-cheek on this one) makes beautiful music. Mikael Akerfeldt (<333) can do stuff like YouTube - Opeth - Credence one second and stuff like YouTube - Opeth - Karma the next.

Wow, I listen to all of the bands you just mentioned.

I also like some heavier European metal, especially those from Finland. I like Children of Bodom, Kalmah, Norther, Ensiferum, Korpiklaani, Sinergy, Wintersun, and Nightwish. All of them are from Finland.

Opeth's songs are always too long, I think, even though they're a great band. If you like Dimmu Borgir, I'd recommend Borknagar.

I have a diverse taste in metal, and I could name countless bands.

Listen to screamo. Listen to Atreyu. MySpace.com - ARIAS [Is in the studio!] - IRVINE, California - Metal / Hardcore / Christian - www.myspace.com/ariasxoc

I haven't heard of a lot of those Finnish band; I'll try to DL some stuff from the obscure ones (and I never knew Bodom and Nightwish were Finnish!) I love what I've heard of Borknagar (two TOTALLY different songs: 'Earth Imagery' and 'The Presence is Ominous.')

Yeah, Opeth's songs are long... but SOOO good. Akerfeldt does something new and unheard-of in every song. I saw them with Dream Theater, Between the Buried and Me, and 3 a few weeks ago: best few hours of my life (I LOVE all four bands.)

Speaking of operatic metal (a la Nightwish), do you know Tristania? They are frickin' fantastic, imo -- they have just the right combination of death metal growls and pretty singing.

Let's hijack this thread into a metal thread. Cannibal Corpse, anyone? ;] YouTube - Cannibal Corpse - Frantic Disembowelment <3

(Stanford1463: I like some screamo, too! I love these two songs by FAtA: YouTube - From Autumn To Ashes - Short Stories With Tragic Endings & YouTube - Reflections - From Autumn to Ashes ... and you should check out Between the Buried and Me; they're a sort of hardcore-band-gone-progressive-death-metal-but-still-with-hardcore-influence.)

I don't enjoy Cannibal Corpse. They are decent guitarists and pretty catchy, but they ruin their musicianship by overloading on the distortion and sound. I prefer Dying Fetus, they have two vocalists (but one plays guitar and the other plays bass).

I don't like Dream Theater that much. Don't get me wrong, they have some of the best musicians, but I don't like their style. It's just me, on a subjective standpoint, they're a great band.

And DragonForce... Great lyrics and great guitarists, at least on studio recordings. Live performances? The guitarists, especially Sam Totman, are way too drunk on stage to play decently, and they are too sloppy from playing so fast.

As for bands with hardcore influences, I like Lamb of God. I guess they put the hammer in the nail for my former like for rap music and definitely moved me away from Nu Metal and Rap Metal (both suck). I think they are classified as Metalcore, but they are a pretty good band.

Cannibal Corpse are a horrible band, as are most neophyte "extreme" metal bands listed in this thread.

And DragonForce... Great lyrics
[/quote]

oh god I hope you're kidding.

Yes, I'm kidding.

They're way too sloppy and they suck. I meant great instrumentals.

And of course, they're always **** drunk.

Yeah, I listen to music because it's "extreme" -- you know, I just love to feel like a badass -- not because of the technical virtuosity displayed by the musicians and the usually-laughable but high-energy and thus enjoyable (to me) nature of the lyrics.

Which bands suck and are good are very subjective. We can all agree that pop music and most rap music sucks, but they seem to sell more records in recent years than any other genres.

I enjoy classical music and a certain bands for their virtuosity. I enjoy other bands for being extreme and keeping me awake while I do some boring studying. Most metal lyrics at least make sense, and some are almost like poetry.

ArtOfMind_21, you spend too much time here...
