I stopped listening to new hip-hop/rap after it got boring, which was 4 years ago. So I just listen to the old Rap/Hip-Hop from the late 80s-90s, but I listen to that old Rock from the 60s -70s and the old Thrash Metal too.

I listen to 80s and 90s punk, modern day punk/alternative/rock/anything else that fits in that category, country, and pretty much anything that has a good beat and I can understand the words (therefore, no rap and very little hip-hop).

I like lots of types of metal: progressive, death, thrash, symphonic, opera, power, etc.

I also like some of that generic "indie" and mainstream stuff (the two are virtually indistinguishable without taking into account fan base, which is really pathetic, so I tend to lump them into one) that's marketed toward teenage girls... but as a teenage girl, I can get away with listening to it. >:]

As an example of my discrepancy of taste: I went to the Progressive Nation tour in DC on May 26th. The bands playing were 3, Between the Buried and Me, Opeth, and Dream Theater -- three of which are in my top five favorite bands of all time, and the fourth of which (3) I've gotten into relatively recently but is up there. Two weeks later, I saw Death Cab for Cutie. XD I am a terrible person, but I enjoyed both shows.

I'm starting to get into some trance and techno, too.

But I mean, I like SOME of everything -- rap, hip hop, the classics, cheesy '80s stuff, etc.

P.S. I tend to discount the opinions of people who say that "all mainstream music sucks." I'm totally willing to agree with the logic that most people enjoy crappy, generic music; therefore, the stuff on the radio is generally formulaic and uninspired. And I'd respect the opinion of someone who does not find that music appealing at all (although I happen to like some music despite its lack of artistic merit, just 'cause I find it enjoyable.) However, anyone who can make a blanket statement about ALL mainstream/radio/pop music without actually listening to the majority of it either (a) has magical powers in discerning good music from bad or (b) is hasty and judgmental.

I've just become more picky with my music. When I first moved from rap music to hard rock, I loved almost any kind of hard rock. Now I can't stand music filled with distorted power chords and simple drum beats and simple, angry lyrics.

I like metal, classical, jazz, and swing/big band music because I know music theory and know what to discern.

Power chords and hip hop beats simply don't cut it anymore.

I like non-mainstream &/or old rock music and most of the kind of indie stuff that leans toward The Hush Sound. Paramore, Anberlin, Flyleaf, old stuff like Bobby Darin lol, Feist, Hot Hot Heat, Over the Rhine, Relient K, Skillet, The Afters, The Killers, This Providence . . that's some of the new stuff I like.

Those Christian Rock bands are decent, because that's the only type of music where I'll focus on the lyrics. I have a soft spot for Christian music because I play bass for the youth worship band.

I like old rock music and I also enjoy some of the simpler music such as the Ramones, Dead Kennedys, and AC/DC.

Almost all/any music! Many of languages i dont know or have ever heard of lol. Btw the other day for the previews of Dark Knight there was a Watchmen preview and the song "The beginning is the end is the beginning" by The Smashing Pumpkins is awesome! Be sure to check it out!

Note: The only music i dislike/rather not listen to is like hardcore country music.
