Anyone here who doesnt play a sport?

I actually really want to start running, but I'm unsure of where to start. Like I said, I used to be extremely fit thanks to a steady regime of cardio and weights, but in the past year I've let myself get out of shape. I don't have any experience with actual running, though. Any advice?

First Flight.. I've never heard of them. But your instructor sounds amazing. My instructor at Surf is also Blackwatch's instructor, so I think that's pretty cool. ^^

I know- it's almost like you become addicted to the constant critique and drive to get better. My instructors had me crying on the field last summer, but I only thought of going home once (and that time my mom talked me out of it, saying I'd regret it, which definitely would have been true).

Yeah, that's 100% true. Cadets get the pick of the litter at the audition camps. I also heard that they (YEA) will lead you on into thinking you're going to get a spot just to suck the money out of you. Hence why I never really wanted to audition, too scared.

Haha I love it. This summer we wrote in some new movement like two days before finals. It's never too late to change something!

Edit- Camelia- Maybe start running with a friend? That's how I do it- we call each other lazy and generally motivate one another to actually run and get in shape.

Yeah--my friend auditioned and they give you a 1, 2, or 3 and tell you to come to the next try-out weekend; 1 meaning you're likely to make it if you come back, 2 meaning you have "things to work on" but should come back anyway and try another audition weekend, and 3 meaning you basically have no chance.

I'm sure most people get 2s.

I hated guard when I was a freshman (with a biting passion). One day I had an epiphany and realized how much my life would suck without it and I actually started working hard. At our leadership retreat this year, my director said "And Leah's the captain of the colorguard..how did THAT happen?"

Carolina has a marching guard and they wear such a flattering shade of blue :)

Yup, I heard Crown does that too. Most people definitely get twos, because the more weekends you come for, the more money you have to pay. It just feels too much like a scheme to me. I wouldn't go for it unless I was really confident.

I used to hate guard too- I was the gawky, awkward freshman who was always hitting herself and tripping over things. XD And sometimes, just to mix it up a little, I'd hit other people with my flag. I wanted to quit SO bad, but my mom told me that I should stick with it, and what do you know- I wound up liking it.

Sweet. ^^ I might go to University of Delaware (still waiting to hear from them) and if I do I'll probably march there.

Yeah--I was absolutely godawful and I could have cared less. The upperclassmen actually wanted me to quit haha. I told this scholarship interviewer that and she laughed at me. lol

U of Delaware is nice--but it's on Princeton Review's list of schools for "What election?" Not that PR rankings are everything, naturally, but I think I'd die in that respect..I pretty much live for politics :)

Crown's super dance-focused, so if you're not a really good mover they'll cut you--one of my instructors auditioned and she's one of the most incredible performers I've ever seen and is a really talented dancer and flag, and they told her she wasn't good enough at dance..total BS.

I wish i didn't play any sports...friggin track every single day!!!

I've never been particularly motivated to kick/throw/dribble/hit a ball around an enclosed area (my parents made me play soccer in elementary school, and I used to fake asthma attacks), and any sort of running is the first circle of hell for me.

I do, however, looove to dance (both in classes/shows and like, going out dancing). People underestimate how much of a workout a musical is-- in my last one, I didn't stop moving for the first hour or so, between actually dancing onstage and costume/makeup changes and getting to entrances.

And I'm FABULOUS at badminton, mostly because that's a 'sport' where I can flail around, amuse myself, and still do reasonably well.

I have never considered myself an athletic person. I hate sports and I can't run any sort of distance without practically dieing. The only sport I have ever been involved with is skiing. There's just something about the freedom it gives...I can't really explain it. I was on my school's ski team freshman year, but then I moved. Now I can only ski once or twice a year on the rare long weekend. It's really depressing.

I played community basketball when I was little, but know I am just to lazy to go to pracitce everyday. People don't seem to understand that I am just a lazy sack of trash. They won't take that for an answer. Don't get me wrong, I like sports, and playing a game of something with friends every know and then is cool, but everyday? I go to work because I get money; what do I get if I go to a game?

Guess what, I've had a 'risky' surgery done to get ready for soccer.....I really want to play! I just want to see how far I can go. ( havne't yet played in high school just for that surgery! :()

I don't play sports, but I exercise once in awhile. And fortunately, I was blessed {read:cursed} with the chopstick with hair gene, so I'm not fat.

I just got cut from softball. Again. :(

My best friend goes, "some people are good at softball, and some people aren't. I'm good at softball, and you suck"

This is after we spend the entire week together trying out, and she's telling me how great I'm doing.

Then she tries to cover up the insult with "but you're good at school!"

Needless to say, she's lost more than a couple friend points :)

^ well though it's harsh you're friend was giving you a reality check, and obviously she knows what she's talking about.

Me sports? y would ne1 play those? there just wastes of time and energy(DUH especially the energy part)
I Really dont get the point of gym..if u get dressed at my school appear and just stand in the gym staring into space on the court or the feild u get a attomatic 85 and im fine w/ that..my gym teacher is worse then my public school teacher i would do what i said and got 95s(i know but i dont think my teacher realized that i wasnt doing anything b/c there was over a 100 kids in the class) the only thing i do is horseback riding which i havent done in months due to busy ness and health reasons

I have gym class twice a week. Oh and I sometimes go and watch the football (soccer) games. Do those count?

I only play tennis and badminton (the only sports I can play) for fun sometimes, but not on any school teams.

I don't. I asked my counselor if I should tryout for a team, but she said it wasn't nesessary. She said clubs like The Crier (school newspaper) and Mathletes are ones that are known to take up a lot of time, so it would suffice.

But this lady is notorious for being... status quo. Should I go out for a sport senior year?

HA! Me and sports. I can say, with the utmost confidence, that any one of my friends would die laughing at the thought. Think guys and tampons...

I don't like playing sports but I like watching football (that is the game with the orange ball, right?)

i dance 24+ hours a week..
