I'm a sophomore and it seems to me like everyone in my classes r in sports. i tried out 4 soccer but didnt get in cuz i missed a practice (or 2). now i feel like a complete loser b/c of my lack of motivation to play sports.

How important is being on an [athletic] team to colleges (pref. ivies)? Would it appear that i m not well-rounded in my apps? I'm involved w/ many other things, so is my best friend (and she has similar, if not better grades than me)

I've never played an organized sport ever in my entire life. Whoo! (Well, I think I did dance when I was really little, but didn't all little girls do tap or ballet at some point? It's like a law.)

Anywho, I'm lazy but I'm not opposed to all physical exercise, I just get annoyed when there's someone else telling me that I have to run another lap or practice dribbling or swim another 100 meters, etc. I can push myself, I don't need someone else yelling at me to do it (needless to say, I hated all my PE classes).

I'm exactly the same. I also get bored very easily--I usually exercise alone at the gym, but I need to bring my iPod and a book to try to keep myself entertained. I do want to start running, though.

I danced ballet for four or five years in elementary school until my parents finally let me quit. I was all angles and long skinny legs (the opposite of graceful) and the only girl in my class who couldn't reach her toes. It was traumatizing.

I don't play any sports. Most of my friends do sports but I just have any fun while playing them. It's probably because I didn't grow up with sports, just plain old made up games in the court yard with friends. Most kids in this town are really into sports since they lived here. They begged me to go to a b'ball game on Friday (apprently it was some champion thing) but I just don't find that fun.

The only thing I was worried about with this is that I won't have any sports to put on my college app but after browsing this site for a while, I noticed that it won't matter much :)

D wasn't into sports---she played Lacrosse for 3 years --2 in middle school, 1 as a freshman. She pretty much hated it (and did it because everyone told her she needed to do a sport for college apps). She played goalie because she's really tall and didn't have to run around very much :) We moved between Freshman and Sophomore year and she firmly announced, no more sports. Hasn't seemed to hurt her, although lots of people think we're terrible parents for not having "pushed" her more w/ regard to team sports. So sue me.

I don't play any sports. I've never taken a single PE class in high school. I can't do push-ups, or run a mile in less than 20 minutes.
Maybe I can make it onto the Caltech soccer team next year :)

I used to fence, 9th through 1th grade, but then the club dissolved over the summer and it was too late to join any other sports. I don't know how to play most sports and the only time I've ever, ever, ever played a team sport was over Christmas break when I played ultimate with some friends. I was hopeless at it. I can throw and catch a Frisbee like nobody's business, but playing as a member of a team...? Hopeless. Utterly hopeless. :o

Four sport athlete here-WOOT just had to say that, you guys were making me feel depressed, because I couldn't live without sports, but obviously, it's just a matter of preference.

"^^ do you do winterguard?! That's awesome--there seriously are no other guard people on this site. What corps have you marched?"

I used to do winterguard- sadly, my school's guard died and I can't afford to pay the steep fees that independent guards charge.

And I marched Jersey Surf last summer. It was ah-mazing. I would march this year but can't afford tour fees to Pasedena (it's something like $1,300, and I need to pay for college... so yeah).

Aw--that's so sad. It's so hard to get monetary support/enough interest in colorguard, which is ridiculous because once you try it you're basically sucked in for life. Pretty much like crack. ;)
Our varsity guard is having a pretty incredible kind of season. We're going to WGI Worlds in Dayton for the first time! Soo excited.

I'd love to march a corps sometime..not this summer, but maybe the next? I'm looking most seriously at Crossmen, but I don't know if I'm good enough haha.
