so i got this letter in the mail about the Program Leading to Undergraduate Success. it came with an enclosed application and it's apparently for meeting the needs of incoming freshmen who are first generation, low income, or have a disability. (in my case it's first gen)

is/was anyone in it? how is it? is it worth sending in the supplemental documentation (essay, tax records, other verification)? it says benefits are "highly energetic, caring and knowledgeable counselors" (aren't there counselors for everyone?), activities that help you learn about yourself, extra benefits/eligible for scholarships, and being able to closely monitor academic progress.

apparently the program is competitive and admits only 200 freshmen every year.

Do it.
I believe they get priority enrollment throughout college and automatic acceptance into AAP (for tutoring). And that in itself is pretty good.

You should do it. You'll get much needed attention from counselors and well if you have problems with school, you'll know who to turn to... and they'll be responsive.

I was in PLUS for a quarter.

Good:
Priorty enrollment for all your quarters. AAP tutoring is actually mandatory for the first year.

Bad:
Talk and meetup with the counselor and staff like 2-3 times a quarter. I mean talking with them is fine, but it's 30 minutes of listening to them talk about their daughter, son, dogs, giraffes, grocery shopping ... I couldn't stand it. It didn't help at all except boost my self esteem about how I will meet my goals at UCLA by 0.05%, since my transition to college was smooth.

thanks you guys, i'll try it out first quarter and see how it goes. maybe i'll like listening to stories about people's giraffes  haha

the plus program website doesn't say anthing at all about priority registration. just workshops and tutoring. anyone in it now that can confirm this?

I quit and still receive emails about it (though I am no longer eligible)

PLUS gives you priority enrollment. I'm in PLUS (dunno why tho). Didnt do anything, but the FT counsellor hooked me up and let me stay. Now i basically get the rest of my 3 years priority for doing nuthing. SWEET. Your priority dates differ according to your year. Seniors get earliest dates...freshmen last. but overall they are like 1 week before first pass for everyone else. i know, gud ****.
