Ok does anyone here know about any of the following schools I listed above? Those are all the schools I have in mind right now, and I'm just wondering, are these all decent colleges? I mean, I know they're not good .... I'm not even aiming for a top, superstar, mainstream college like most of you guys here. My GPA is too terrible for that to even imagine. But realistically, those are the colleges I have in mind right now. Maybe I'll scratch out Stony Brook, because I'm not sure if I'll even get in there with my scary GPA. But I believe I have a decent shot at the others I listed. Anyways I was just wondering if anyone here has an idea about any of these schools? LIke what it's it like? Is it terrible? decent? ok? Is it competitive to get in? (Although I doubt that) ... whatever.

Rutgers is considered to be a solid public school, and St. Johns is a rather non-conditional LAC. Stony Brook is known for it’s sciences. I don’t know anything else about the rest.

Stony Brook and UB are both good schools with solid academics. Unfortunately, unless you qualify for EOP, it’s unlikely that you’ll be accepted with a really low gpa (saw in another post you’re talking about a 2.0). What are your SAT Math and CR scores?

I dont know why CUNY would not be recommended. John Jay is known for criminal science. City college has many great programs. However, unless you are in Honors program (unlikely with 2.0), housing not likely. I dont know if you can get into honors program after fresh year, you should ask.

All of the schools you mentioned are “mainstream”, they’re just not at the top, and that’s fine.

The two CUNY schools you mentioned are excellent – City College is more of a general undergrad college. The campus is very beautiful (situated in uptown Manhattan) and it has a solid reputation. You’ll be right in the thick of things in NYC. John Jay I know less about, but I do know that it’s focused on criminal justice and law and things of that nature. I don’t know why anyone wouldn’t recommend most CUNY schools unless they have very skewed ideas of “good” and “bad.”

Buffalo and Stony Brook are also very good schools, and you should consider more of the SUNY schools as well – Binghamton, Geneseo, Brockport, Empire State, Fredonia, New Paltz, Old Westbury, Plattsburgh, Purchase. These are all great campuses of the SUNY system, and if you are an NYS resident they should be relatively inexpensive for you.

Hi there- my son will be a junior st SUNY IT and really likes it. He is a buisness major and plans to get MBA from SUNY ALB. The dorms are awesome- townhouse/Adirondack style. He is really happy there- involved with sports- soccer & track. GOod luck!

I went to St.John’s and transferred after my freshman fall semester. It is the most boring campus I’ve ever witnessed. On the weekends probably 80% of the students go home, there aren’t any parties or social events really on campus, and the accomadations for residents sucks. Also the whole religious school factor makes it very hard to do anything in your dorms without getting in serious trouble. Overall very boring school and although its in queens you have to take a bus to a train to get to manhattan, which takes about 45 minutes on a good day.
