i heard about the texas holdem class in UCLA. I was thinking about taking it, but the title is texas holdem and statistics? Is there a lot of poker in the class or is it just a all statistic class?

poker involves a lot of statistics

i wonder if chris ferguson's dad teaches it

I took it my freshman year, if you are talking about the Fiat Lux. The class is mostly statistics, but you will get a chance to read poker articles and look at case studies where statistics was involved. On the last day, we ran a game/simulation where groups would predetermine when to fold or go all in (those were the only two options) when certain sums came up. So a little coding, mostly statistics with hold-em background, but pretty interesting.

If you want to come play cards, then you'd be disappointed.

I have a friend taking it. She LOVES it and said that the last day is a poker tournament. She made it sound more interesting than BH's description - maybe it's looser these days.

I'm taking it right now. Its called 35b: Intro to prob. with application to poker.

Its basic probability. If youve taken stats before, even high school stats, you should do fine.

I mean, the prof told us on the first day that you don't need to be very good at math/stats to do well.

But if you hate poker, you'll be bored out of your mind.

hope that helps
