haha maybe at UNLV. Seriously though, I'm sure some school has like sport theory, ethics kinda stuff. Dont know exactly, but I doubt you can major in it. You play online?

At Wisconsin they bring in the best

Nine students will square off against poker superstar Phil Hellmuth Jr. to crown the Intramural Sports Texas Hold'em "Champion of Champions" from 7-10:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, in the On Wisconsin Room of the Red Gym. Hellmuth, who attended UW-Madison in the late 1980s, is one of the biggest celebrities in the world of professional poker. He has won the World Series of Poker nine times, collecting $3.6 million in winnings. He began playing cards at Memorial Union and ultimately left the university to launch his professional career. No money is associated with the tournament and the only prizes are Intramural Sports T-shirts, along with books and DVDs signed by Hellmuth. Information: 265-3828, warren1@education.wisc.edu.

Actually Hellmuth hasn't won 9 World Series of Poker. He has won 10 bracelets and the main event once.

pwnd

10char

Yeah, Hellmuth is famous because he's a loudmouth. He isnt exactly that successful. Look at Texas Dolly baby :)

The probability parts of a good first-year Probability and Statistics course are helpful for many games of chance, especially blackjack.

I'd probably major in Math and/or statistics to learn more about gambling and poker.

yeah i play online sometimes or with my buddies

i think i have some gambling blood in me. I am pretty good at it.

Who has more major event wins than Phil? Not many. He has written several successful books and gets $25,000 if you want to play him. His persona has helped put the game on TV. It's part of the act.

PH profile and record

There are classes in game theory (not poker-specific)...check the online class lists of universities.
And yes, if you really like gambling, statistics might be appealing.

At many schools there are very strong games. . . i.e., lots of people who get together to play who are so good that you will learn from them.

The classes you could take that are sorta poker-related. . . like game theory. . . will not teach you to be a better player, at least not directly. If you want to get better, you need to find out where the good players are once you get to school.

Most competitive schools will have some great players, because poker is a game that attracts smart, competitive people. Harvard/M.I.T. have some top-quality gamblers.

I highly, highly, highly doubt you'll ever see a class like that in college
but
I'm sure you could learn plenty about poker through on-campus events. For instance, I've seen flyers for Texas Hold'Em tournaments on campus. Playing cards is a pretty popular activity in college...

that and Halo.

I've played a LOT of Halo since I've started college. Our dorms have big screen TV's in the Multipurpose rooms where people bring down their Xboxes and duel it out all night.

25, 30 people hanging around, eating pizza, waiting for a turn at Halo... fun times.

hey look up the kelly critereon and Edward Thorp
maybe you have all aready heard of him, but he's pretty famous (inspired the card counting portion of rainman pretty sure)

there are free things online describing how to count cards, it seems do-able even if you are not an autistic savant or anything, seems to help your odds

this would never work at a casino, but with friends it might help your odds (would this be consdiered cheating, it seems like a way of betting, but maybe it's illegal to do even with friends)
