Anyone know anything about the Honors Program?

Sirwatson....are you saying you received USD's highest scholarship AND acceptance into their honors program with these SAT scores...or did you retake a third time or submit the ACT? This makes no sense.

It helps to put it in writing, include what you have to offer the school, any additional honors recieved and also any offers from other colleges. Good luck, let us know how you make out!

My highest score on the SAT was 1130 as my lowest was 980. I was accepted into the honors program with them knowing both of these scores. Contrary to these low scores, I had achieved scholastically in all other levels of high school, community college, and university. My point is that the SAT does not have all of the clout. I showed my academic prowess in all other areas. But yes to answer your question. I got in with those scores, admission into the honors program, and the $12,000 a year Trustee scholarship.

I just found out on Jan 30th that I got into USD (class of 2010) and I got the Trustee Scholarship of $60,000 over 4 years, meaning $15,000 a year, without regard to financial need. I also got invited to join the Honors Program and there is an application.

These are my stats:
9-12 GPA: 4.17 (I take all IB classes, but I am one class short of the diploma)
Composite ACT: 25
SAT II: Spanish 770, Math 600
SAT I: Verbal 580, Math 650, Writing 600. Total = 1830
Involved in: NHS, CSF, Key Club, Assisteens, (was a) Girl Scout (Silver Award)
Essay: How I am Dutch and how language has changed me and what I plan to do with language in the future.

So I'm excited. The only other schools I've gotten into so far are Chapman and SDSU. So far USD is the biggest consideration because of the money and I just love it.

So if you have any input on USD let me know! The more I think about it, the more excited I get!

Also, if you have any questions let me know, even though I probably can't answer much.

Wow!! Your SAT scores are identical to my daughter's (almost...her writing was 630). Her GPA is 3.87 with a class rank of 8/194. She didn't get any merit aid at all with her acceptance. Oh well. Maybe she'll get some need based aid...$18000 EFC...we're hoping...We assume that ALL the merit aid awards are sent with the acceptances.

Last yr their highest merit award was 12,000 so they must have increased this yr. Congratulations!!!

So I've told a couple of people that go to USD about the scholarship and they said that they got their scholarship a while after their acceptance letter. So I don't think you need to worry about not getting a scholarship. A lady at my mom's work said her daughter didn't get her scholarship of $10,000 till a month or so after she was accepted. She said that maybe the reason why they gave me the scholarship with my acceptance letter is because maybe they just really want me to go there (which I don't really understand cause my stats aren't spectacular.)

And also, from the USD chats on CC I thought that $12,000 was the highest scholarship, but I guess this year they range form $6,000 to $15,000. So I guess our class just lucked out with the extra money :-)

I just got my letter from USD, and as I'd applied there as a safety, I was pretty sure I would be accepted. Imagine my surprise when I received the 60,000 dollar scholarship and Honors program admission. To be frank, it never occurred to me to expect it.

My stats, in case anybody was wondering:

GPA: 3.65 (unweighted), 4.1 (weighted)
SAT: 730 Writing, 760 Verbal, 640 Math (2130)
SAT II: 800 US History, 770 Literature

I've volunteered at about ten different places over the last four years, and I have just under 1200 service hours. Most of my volunteering has been mentoring young children around my community at local preschools and day-care facilities. I'm also part of CSF, an officer in GSA, part of our school literary club, an officer in Model UN and a former Girls Stater. I also was active in Youth and Government

So, Shanabelle, are you going???

Probably not. I got into Bryn Mawr and Scripps, among others, and I think they suit my personality a lot more.
