I just received a letter notifying me that I won it for my region and will be receiving $1500 per academic year from the National Government.

Sounds like a good award too, I just looked it up on the internet, but does anyone know anymore about it?

what was your SAT score and unweighted GPA? I wanted this scholarship, but it looks bleak now...

do you know if we still get a letter sent if we were nominated but didn't win it?

It's a pretty nice scholarship. After you finish your first year, you can reapply and get 1500 per year which will equate to 6000 for the entire 4 years.

Yeah, when did you get this notification? I applied for the award and figured I was pretty much a lock, especially from the New Orleans area. Haven't heard anything though, so I kind of phased it out of my financial considerations.

3.98 UW GPA
36 Converted ACT score (never took the ACT)

Yeah, I got it too. You have to be nominated by your school to receive it (my school could only nominate 1 person, but I think I read in another forum of one school being able to nominate 9). It's awarded by state. Do you know if we need to notify UF we are receiving this scholarship? The letter just said that they would be sending the funds to the school.

I have that same question. Chandra, are you at all related to Bobby Moon?

...Is that a joke? My name isn't actually Chandra Moon.

No, I thought it might actually be your name. Maybe it's some obscure reference I missed though.

I chekced ISIS today (I haven't looked at it since Monday, though) and it has been updated to include the Robert C. Byrd scholarship, so I guess we don't have to do anything.

The Robert C. Byrd Scholarship is federally funded but the state determines how to make the awards. In Florida, each high school is only allowed to nominate one student. That student has the highest GPA and SAT or ACT score. There is a calculation the state actually makes to create a numeric value based on these statistics. The students with the top "score" receive the Byrd Scholarship.

Thanks ktwofish, but I was really more interested in how many kids total get it from Florida and I know they divide the 67 counties into 5 regions based on population, but about how many per region get the award.
