shows up on the myUCF link. I just want to make sure that all the AP credit shows up because it fulfills a great deal of DS's GEP requirements. I noticed his CLEP college algebra showed up with the 3 credit hours noted. But ... I was wondering about the AP.

I'll answer my own question, as we just received his formal AP exam scores in the mail. His SS# was totally bonkers, thus the university doesn't realize it has his 07 scores because they are listed under the wrong SS# for his name, collegeboard didn't connect his 05 and 06 scores to the report, which means the college doesn't have those scores at all -- right social security number or not. Aaaargh! Okay ... it's fixed now. University will have all the scores (9 of them, LOL) in the next 5 business days so he can get credit for those classes. Geeesh!

What is a CLEP? How do they know which level of math to put your child when they get to UCF if they haven't taken AP tests? My D is taking honors calculus this year in school, will she have to take some sort of a placement exam?

Everybody has to take a placement exam, and that along with your major's requirements helps to determine which math you belong in. If she is taking honors calculus she might as well take the AP exam. I took Calculus AB and now I never have to take a math class again because it satisfies my only math requirement, College Algebra.

My final transcript hasn't even showed up in the system and that was sent 2 months ago. I don't hold out much hope for my final AP scores getting in there too soon.

My son was in Honors Calculus this year. He's good in math, just not particularly fond of math for math's sake, and he didn't want to take the AP class. For an Economics B.A., he needed college algebra, which he didn't want to take, and so he took the CLEP test for college algebra at the University Testing Center. He passed the exam (it's pass or fail), and they've already updated his records to show 3.0 credit hours for the college algebra class. He didn't take the placement test because he passed the CLEP exam. Google CLEP, and the site will tell you essentially what's on each exam.

My D will need to take MAC 1114 (college trigonometry) and STA 2023 (Statistical Methods) for her health sciences major. They are listed as Core requirements. I am not sure if she can place out of that? Would it be worth her taking a CLEP next spring, just to get the 3 credits anyway?

CLEP is used to get rid of a class that you feel comfortable with the material and know you won't be hurt if you have to take another more advanced class in the same field. For college algebra, S was sure he already possessed the skills needed from that class, and as it was the only math class required (besides Stats 2023, which he'll be taking), he decided it was worth it to CLEP it so he wouldn't have to sit through the class. This is the only class he'll CLEP, and again it was just to get him out of a math for math's sake class, which he's usually so horribly bored in ... and then tends to get lazy and not get stuff done. LOL Perhaps you should talk to an advisor in your D's field and let them give you their impression? S has 27 hours finished between AP and CLEP; the one problem is that it lessen's his opportunity for some potentially easier A's to work into his GPA as he moves forward into more advanced courses. But for our S we've noticed that he concentrates more and is more likely to do the work if he's challenged in the course, so moving through some of these classes will probably work better for his GPA in the long run. <g> Stubborn kid!</g>

Anyone know where on MyUCF they list your AP credit? D got her scores the other day and had them sent to UCF. How do we know that they received them? They are not listed on the application status page (where her SAT's are listed).

My S's AP score report was screwed up we found out yesterday. Two numbers in his SS# were transposed so none of the scores arrived at UCF, at least under his SS#. Who knows who got his AP scores, might be a huge surprise for that person. LOL. Anyway, we were told if you go the student center page of myUCF, where your schedule is listed, and click on degree audit that you should see if the credit's there. Also, you might find it under transfer reports ... in the same section, even though technically your kid's not transferring ... but they still liste all the test scores, i.e. SAT, ACT, CLEP ... etc. So, you might find it there, also. We won't know for a couple of weeks because they have to resend his scores to UCF under his correct SS#.

D's AP scores are now listed next to her SAT scores (under the Test Results section) when she checked her application status on MyUCF. Good to know that they are efficient over there!

Mine are there as well and unfortunately it doesn't look like I'm going to get the credit that I had expected. I was under the impression that getting a 5 on English Lit would ensure that I never had to take a lit class again, but instead of getting credit for the 2nd level composition course I get some class that doesn't even exist in the current catalog. I'm going to be very bummed if I have to take a composition course, that was the single subject I was most excited to leave behind.

It seems a "5" in AP LIT gets you ENC1101 and LIT1005. You still probably have to take ENC1102 to satisfy the GEP Communication Foundation requirement.

Now, that's interesting. :) My son was bumbed because he got 3's on both Lang and Lit so he was going to have to take ENC1102. But if what you're saying is true, it wouldn't have made a difference if he'd gotten a 4 or a 5 on the Lit, as far as the 1102 credit. He'd still have to take it. He'll be pleased. His AP credits all finally showed up, and he has 29 credit hours. His AP worked wonderfully with the GEP requirements with the major he picked. My D won't have as good of luck, as she's going a rigorous science route, and she's not going to use her AP science class credits because she wants to take the courses to make sure she's got the foundation. We're trying to make sure that she gets the history/english/social science ones though as those should translate okay.

Yeah, that really bummed me out. I absolutely hate Lit and that was really what excited me most about college. There is no record of that other course I got credit for even existing according to the catalog, so I don't get it. Maybe its something they planned on introducing in the future?

Its alright though as I still have earned 30 credits that I had to take and 10 that can be used to fill up those extra hours I would've needed to fulfill the 120 hour requirement for graduation. It just sucked that the class I most wanted to get out of was the one that changed.

Just checked my sons scores on the UCF website - they only had 2/4 of this year's AP scores, and NONE of them from junior year! Turns out there was some problem at the college board, and they are resending all the scores.
Glad you guys "made me look!"

Yeah, isn't that a mess to get straightened out. We essentially had a problem with his ACT's, too. We noticed that some of the colleges weren't getting his second scores, and then found out he had been assigned an ACT ID, even though he'd put his SS# down both time. Probably did it so illegibly that they couldn't read it. Wouldn't surprise me, as he always looks like he's writing with his toes. <g> We had to call all three universities and get them to link up the files. I'll try and watch more closely with my D when she takes them this year.</g>
