Just wanted to see how many didn't write about members of your family for this prompt: Write an essay in which you tell us about someone who has made an impact on your life and explain how and why this person is important to you. You don't have to say who you wrote about instead, I'm just sort of tallying.

I didn't. At least, I didn't for the first UC prompt - the one that asks how community/background/family/school influenced our dreams and aspirations. (And seeing how I'll probably just tweak the UC essay for the "person who made a difference" essay, it all comes to the same thing.) :D

well i know it is a cliche topic but i said my parents are my most influential people, but i think i have a good reason why other than the norm

Haven't written an essay with that prompt yet, but I would not choose my parents or family. There's definitely one person who has helped me to become who I am and has always been there for me when I needed someone. I would be surprised if most people chose a relative to write about. It seems like with an unforced relationship, you can be influenced on deeper, fuller levels by people who you choose to learn from.

Quick question: the prompt says "why they are important to you"

Can I write about someone who isn't exactly personally important to me, but has taught me a valuable lesson? My 8th grade Gifted and Talented Language teacher. The McCollister (okay her name was Mrs. McCollister). She was scary as hell, and no one really liked her as a person, but as an educator, she was brilliant. By the way, the lesson was: Don't pity yourself or make excuses and you'll be fine. I've been trying to write about my mom, but I can't seem to make it unique.

I think if she taught you that lesson, she would be important to you. I mean, that's a very significant influence on your life, and you obviously value it and realize the importance of you having met her. It seems like she is pretty important to you, to who you are now.

hey xybciba you pmed me a few days ago, I just logged on today and responded but was informed that your pm box is full or something
