I'm a UB-SIM student living in Singapore right now but I'm planning to transfer to UB in fall 2011 and I'm looking out for student housing options apart from the dorms/UB student apartments.

Collegiate Village seems like a nice place but I haven't found any proper reviews about living there so I'm really not sure if it really is as wonderful as the website claims it is.

I've also heard of other housing options that are closer to UB's north campus (UV sweethome and Villas at Chestnut ridge). HOWEVER, I did find a couple of reviews on those two apartment complexes and well... they weren't really that positive.

Let me know if you've heard of anything about Collegiate Village or even better if you currently living there and you'd like to add your 2 cents. (:

Collegiate Village is quite far from North Campus. Don’t even consider it unless you will have a car. I believe they operate shuttles once an hour to south. Then you need to take UB’s busing system to north, which can take a half hour. So it could potentially be an hour and a half to get to north campus - now that would be a pain!

If you have a car, it’s about a 20 minute drive…not especially close, but not as much of a pain.

Sweethome and the Villas don’t seem to have many favorable reviews…but they are literally right next to north campus. A 15 minute walk to most of the campus, or they operate shuttles frequently.

You can’t get into on-campus apartments until you’ve been enrolled 4 semesters, I believe, although not sure if there’s any provisions for transfers.

I checked out the shuttle schedules on the site. They have regular shuttles to both UB South and UB north. For north, the shuttles come at 20 mins intervals and are a 20 minutes ride away. To south, it’ll only take 10 minutes but most of my classes will be at north sadly.

I am eligible for on campus housing but I’ll most likely be living with my bf and I know that co-ed living isn’t allowed which is why I didn’t consider applying for on campus apartments.

Thanks a lot for your imput! If I don’t hear any bad reviews about the housing and maintainence in CV it’ll just mean that I’ll have to pick between comfort (better living) or convenience.

kitty, there are UB students on this forum who have posted about all three of these complexes recently. Look at the threads from this summer. They didn’t seem to think Sweethome or Chesnut Ridge were bad choices and they live there! I haven’t visited either place, so no real info to offer, but I think you have to take internet reviews with a grain of salt - usually disgruntled people have a lot to say on a topic and have been known to just make stuff up.

There are other apartment complexes in the area and many, many private rentals. UB has a revolving listing for them here:
[Off-Campus Housing and Apartments at UB — Search](http://subboard.com/och/)

I live at sweethome right now and honestly have no complaints except the fact that the shuttle doesn’t run on weekends or late nights which can be a hassle if you don’t have a car. Having a full kitchen and private bed and bathroom are pretty cool although it is kind of expensive. This is my first year at ub and I had to resort to sweethome because the dorms were full but as of now I am happy.

@Dreamworld, that’s awesome! I hope you’re enjoying UB so far :D, a friend of my friend’s who just started living at sweethome also has no complains. And she says the shuttles are frequent and they come every 5 minutes

The shuttles at CV work till 11 15pm for UB north and on the weekends they have shuttle services to the malls too! I won’t be driving at all so I guess I’d have to put that into consideration. But I still have to think about that 20 mins wait for the shuttle to UB. Still, I wouldn’t want to be stuck in the apartments during the weekends!

Hey Dreamworld. I am a new student at Buffalo North campus and I haven’t found an apartment yet. I am thinking to move to sweethome and I want to ask you about that. Everything I’ve read so far was really bad except yours. So, Is it good to live there?

Hey Ecoyaf. I was really expecting it to be horrible as well after reading all the bad reviews online but surprisingly, most of that stuff is inaccurate. I like it a lot. It’s kind of pricey but you really can’t beat a private bathroom, full kitchen, gym etc. I probably won’t do it again next year because it is kind of expensive but if you can afford it, go for it. My only complaint is that the buses don’t run on weekends.

I Live there now and I would NOT recommend it to anyone. They charge way too much are far away from school and that bus route you were talking about is not consistent. When I moved in they said they were going to Canisius and Daemen as well and they don’t anymore. There amenedies are often broken. If one of your roommates leave they fill it in with someone you don’t know which doesn’t sound that bad until they crank the air up over the summer when your not their and you have to pay the electric bill over charge. They also fixed our dryer which I did not break then charged us for the part without even telling us. The maintance men drive around like maniacs and almost hit me coming around the corner once. They have room checks twice a year which makes it feel like your in a dorm not your own apartment in which you pay WAY to much for. And as the new contracts are coming up to be signed they constantly call you asking you to renew or they want to know when you will be leaving, and the fact is I don’t know yet I have not heard from Graduate schools yet and I feel if I tell them I’m leaving they will be rude to me.

I planned on staying at CV if I went to Buff State, but I’ll be at UB so I’m looking into UV now.

Has anyone had (or know anyone that has) experience with the roommate matching services offered by UV? The only person I know in Buffalo isn’t a student, so I don’t have anyone to request a space with.

Going to UB Looking to stay at Collegiate Village OR Sweethome also. anyone been at either that can compare the two? I see alot of bad reviews on both and most of the good reviews Ive found out are made my employees of each place so i want a true non-bias opinion on the two. I have a car so distance isn’t to much of an issue. Are there many UB students that live at CV?

I have obtain a lease from both places and CV is actually cheaper than SH.((seen someone say SH was cheaper))…

and im also lost on Taby10 comment …was u talking about CV OR SH?

I live at CV and I have very few complaints if any. My apartment is nice, I don’t have to pay to use a gym and I get to and from class with no problems. It’s a little far from UB North but i prefer it 100% more than living on campus. It’s kind of expensive but so is living on campus. Def somewhere to consider if you’re looking to get out of the dorms.

Hi, i am going over to UB this fall. And i am applying UV Sweethome apartment. I really wish to know more about that place, so that i am mentally prepared when i reach there.
Thank you so much!

I’ve lived at SH in the past and it’s ok. It’s far from what they make it out to be on their website and when you tour. The model looks amazing but when you move in you’re in for a rude awakening. The rooms are tiny. The staff is decent but the service is far from stellar. You would expect them to care a little more with the amount of money you’re paying. Plus they charge you for all of August even though you don’t move in until the end of the month. Make sure you’re confident you’re ready to live there and you have the $ to pay the entire lease before you sign anything because they I know of students who have been taken to court.

Positives: I did like the gym a lot when the equipment was working. The clubhouse is nice but it does get old. Most of the students there are fun to hang out and party with. Prob not the best environment for Studying but def great parties.
