Anyone studying in a U.S university right now.

So, i have an offer from an university and i would have to pay 5k a year in tuition fees and also the room and board. I am not sure whether i should take it or leave it. My question would be, how much can you earn through part time jobs to use that earning to pay for college? Would living off campus be an affordable choice?

My advice has always been to not plan on paying anything by working. You should really focus on school work, not get stressed about money to pay for school. I did work when I was in college, but that was for spending money, money to buy tickets to go home, etc. Specially, since it’s $5k, that’s quite a bit. What I did do was, I dropped the meal plan, which meant I didn’t have to pay anymore - so, I just had to make enough money to buy food and other supplies. Anything more than that, I probably would have had to stress a lot.

Are you international, and would you be on an F1 visa? You’re restricted on how much and what type of work you can do on that visa

@sixstringsrocker Did you recieve full tuition? Did your parents sponsor your room and board?

@Jericho_19 Yes, I did - I also received room & board - just not 100%. Once I gave up the meal plan, I could do without paying anything.

@sixstringsrocker which university was it? Answer if you want to and what was your stats?

@Jericho_19 Lafayette College, the stats don’t really matter that much - so I don’t care to give it out anymore. It was also 7 years ago.

Also, a good thing to note would be that a lot of private colleges have compulsory residency and/or meal plan requirements.
