Hi there,
Has anyone taken Math 124:Survey of Calculus at michigan state?
How difficult would this course be for me, as someone who puts forth effort but really isn't great at math (average at the absolute best.), but needs this course (or a transferable equivalent) for my major??
Is this a potentially nightmarish course that you recommend doing over the summer at a cc? Or is it not too bad to knock out at Michigan state and get at least a 3.0 in it. Any help would be appreciated, thanks so much!! :)

I did this course last summer at Schoolcraft College. This was a 7 week NIGHTMARE for me!! I’m really pretty good at math too and had a perfect 4.0 GPA prior to taking this course. I think it was a combination of a really bad professor and the condensed timeline, but the class average was below 60%. There was a bit of an uproar in the class near the end and the professor ended up letting everyone use notes for the final. I think it was the only way the whole class didn’t fail the course. Don’t know how I ended up with a 3.3, but I was happy!

I haven’t taken survey of calc at MSU myself, but I’ve heard from a couple of math-adverse friends that it is all right/relatively easy in comparison to calc I. I’m also pretty sure the final was open-book or open-notes. If a 3.0 is your minimum goal and you pay attention in class/do the hw, I wouldn’t worry about it too much

I haven’t taken Survey but I did take Calc I. Calc I wasn’t horrible, you need to pay attention and do the work though. I would think survey would be easier but, again, you’ll need to pay attention, study, and do the work.
