Anyone Taking it for the First Time Next Saturday?

haha im a senior and this will be my first time taking the test too :/

oh and i kind of had a similar question as collegeact, but more around the lines of would the dec act test scores be out in time to send it to colleges?

oh and cricket123: cool! haha im indian too  where are you from and where are you planningto apply?

Iā€™m pretty positive that math and science going to destroy me. Well, math will trip me up more than science. Thankfully Iā€™m not looking into going to an expensive Ivy/private university for undergrad, but Iā€™m still gonna be super disappointed if I donā€™t at least get a composite of 30. I dropped out of school after the 8th grade, so this shall truly be a test of what Iā€™ve taught myself more than anything.

What makes science so hard? It seems like just reading graphsā€¦ I havenā€™t scored below a 35 science on the practice tests yet o_o

gamer addict: . Its just that I keep making silly mistakes. very very silly mistakes

@harrypotter<3,
Oh Iā€™m not indianā€¦ :stuck_out_tongue: Iā€™m from the US but originallly from Russia! MY top choices are NYU, GWU, and Brandeis. You?

@GamerAddict, stupid mistakes and most of the passages are very boring for me to read.

Does anyone else feel that timing is going to be a major issue? Iā€™m worried about my time managemtent for science and reading.

@Gamer: Treading through boring graphs and (usually) useless passages makes me screw up. I had that problem with reading tests for longest time - all of the crap you have to read is just yawn-worthy, and when Iā€™m not engaged, I donā€™t do as well as I could.

Iā€™m mostly worried about the time. When I do practice tests, Iā€™m always so scared that Iā€™ll run out of time that I end up skimming stuff while I should probably pay attention to details. Oh, and if a question stumps me, I get angry and just guess rather than move on and try to figure it out later. Iā€™m definitely gonna change my strategy when I take the test tomorrow.

Yeah, Iā€™m worried about time too, especially on the math and science section. I usually have time to go back and check on the reading sections, but I seem to run out time on the math sections sometimes. For science, I just really have to plow through it and not get distracted or I wonā€™t finish.

Yeah thats definitely trueā€¦ I love science so thats probably whyā€¦ but my Reading score is like 9 points lower because I canā€™t focus on that boring nonsense! Grr :(

That and theres so little time :(

If given more time, I feel like I would perform really well on each section! :(

Has anyone been preparing for the writing/essay? I havenā€™tā€¦ :stuck_out_tongue: Is it the same format as the SAT just more time is given?

I canā€™t answer that question, but I must build off of it: since this is the first time taking the test, I decided not to opt for the writing portion (well, and the school I want to go to doesnā€™t require it and itā€™s not too hard to get into), but should I have tried it anyway? I am a slow writer, and I tend to have a hard time writing something out as long as an essay without having to alter it at least 10 times. Itā€™s not that I make mistakes, but when itā€™s something as important as that, Iā€™m legitimately a perfectionist. If I screw up badly this time, should I take the writing test too next time?

If the school you are applying to doesnā€™t require it then I wouldnā€™t.

Some of the schools Iā€™m applying to require it so Iā€™m taking itā€¦ Have you taken the SAT?

Hey how was it?
mine went okayish
math and english were good
science and reading sucked

someone should start a discussion threadā€¦

Nose goes! touches nose

:)

Haha

English seemed very easy, I feel good about that.

Got tripped up on math and spent too much time on a stupid question and ended up guessing on 3 or 4.

science was okay (seemed easier than practice tests but some parts and questions were confusing) and reading was okay-ish.

how did you feel about the essay? the few minutes more than the SAT seemed to really help :)

EDIT: @nina1228, make a post with the thread link if you make one pleaseā€¦

hi cricket:
I guess our papers were different
arent they different for INT and US ?

Iā€™m sure they are.
