I really want to take summer classes but I'm kind of confused between AAP's summer transfer program and normal summer classes.
i like the idea of the summer transfer program as it is structured to help with the transition but I don't like that the classes I chose from are limited. I'm also confused by the expectations, on one part of the website I read students take 2 classes but in another part I read 3 classes.
I really want to sign up for classes asap as I know space is limited so any advice or info would be appreciated.
thanks.

I was also looking into AAP. I think its for low income, first gen and URM students. Everyone can sign up for normal summer session, but AAP classes is just for AAP students. From what I read, students in AAP summer program get a lot of attention from profs ta’s and counselors which is always nice. The classes are limited, but it helps to be 11-12 units ahead of everyone else hahaha. then our registration would probably earlier or however UCLA’s system works. Also Transfer students in AAP’s summer program are expected to take 3 classes which adds up to 11-12 units.

this is from their website:
In TSP, you’ll enroll in three university courses and receive 11-12 units of credit toward your UCLA degree requirements. You will take an advanced Composition course, a research course, and an upper division seminar in one of the following areas: Psychology, Urban Poverty, or Literature. You will have the opportunity to take one or two of your TSP courses for Honors credit. Courses offered in TSP are:

Afro-American Studies 188: Race and Public Policy
Chicano & Chicana Studies 148: Coalition & Conflict: Urban Poverty, Migration, & Race in the U.S.
Psychology 175: Community Psychology
English 178B: Interracial Encounters in Contemporary American Literature
Advanced Composition (everyone will be enrolled in this course)
English 100W: - Intensive Writing
Honors 101A: Summer Research Forum

If i attend UCLA i definitely want to sign up for this even though it seems really intimidating to complete 11-12 units in such a short period of time. Plus if i can get psych 175, i think it would count as one of my electives since I’m a psych major I also would like to find out more, since it seems like such a heavy load of work for such a short period of time. I’m afraid I wont be able to keep up. anyways hope this helped!

Yea I’ve heard it’s geared towards low income/first generation but anyone can sign up.
That’s great I’m a psych major too, so I have one psych class to choose from but the normal summer program has so many great classes I was so excited just looking through the classes.
It’s relieving to see I’m not the only person who’s intimidated!
I would rather take regular summer program but the aap program seems to offer many good advantages.

the bigger question to me is…does fafsa cover summer fees?

[UCLA Financial Aid Office - Summer Aid FAQ’s](http://www.fao.ucla.edu/faqs_summer.htm#1A)

I read looking through old post if your efc is under 2000 aap summer program is free. That’s making me lean towards the aap program.

I was looking into doing this but all the personal one on one attention is putting me off. I might be the only one.
I like being independent. I don’t need anyone holding my hand. I know what courses are like at the university level. I am familiar with the quarter system. I know how to plan. If I have any questions, I will actively go out and seek help.

Plus, the courses are very limited. I wanted to just delve right into my major coursework.

I’m really not sure.

yes! summer classes. probably UCLA. depends what happens this friday. so excited. and it looks like there is some money to help out with tuition. make sure to log into fafsa and add UCLA to last years list of schools so you can qualify for whatever summer aid is available. congratulations peeps! i know you all worked extremely hard to get accepted.

@allfieldsarerequired
exactly! i am going to try and take classes, but hell if i am going to get sucked into some handholding session. i am sure they will accommodate us and just let us take classes. plenty of other kids will take up their time. n’est pas?

@philosoup
we should be able to Pell and maybe the school will wave tuition fees? hope so.

Is it to late to get normal summer classes?

i was browsing around the summer session page and it seems there are spots left, at least in all the classes i checked.

^ cool beans. damn, i love california. just think how grim it would be if we lived in mississippi? summer classes at UCLA. yeah baby!

Are you doin em for sure? I’m considering taking 2 classes. I would actually love to participate in this summer program in NYC for my major. Ahh, I wish.

does anyone know when is the deadline for summer financial aid?
ahhhh i feel so lost.
guess i’ll be driving to campus tomorrow, hopefully I can get some useful help.

April 30th

@Citiz3nerased

How/where do I sign up for the AAP summer program?

Check your events page and RSVP to aap scholars day, I’m guessing that’s when we sign up.

How are you guys signing up for housing for summer?
