Anyone try and get UCLA to match aid with other schools? I have 20k/year merit engineering $$ from UMich, worthit to try and get UCLA to match?

After talking to a financial aid person at the college welcome day, it sounded as if no one could get any more aid.

Berkeley is offering more money than UCLA, but all the financial aid officer said was that Berkeley had more money to spend.

My dad sent off a letter anyways just in case.

Ummm, last I checked universities weren't electronics stores. If UCLA didn't give you any aid they probably wouldn't care much if you enrolled or not.

If money is truly an issue, just go to UMich because $80k isn't any small sum of money..

the ucs wont even match each other's merit based regents scholarship. youll get a chuckle at most with your attempt at negotiations. in other words save your time, and if money is an issue then save that as well and just go to umich

"in other words save your time, and if money is an issue then save that as well and just go to umich"

harsh, but true.

lol, price matching colleges. :D

as if they're desperate... when they throw around statistics such as being the university with the most applicants in the nation and send out acceptance letters consisting of only a sheet of paper in a #10 envelope (they used to), you gotta know they could care less.

Schools match need-based aid only. At least, that's what Cal and other schools told me. They don't look at merit-based aid. Also, they don't match, they "recalculate."

they won't match the UC system is super tight on funding. Send a thank you letter to the Governator for killing the education budget in the state.
