On a lark, I decided to try this. I did a search on some schools I was curious about. I found professional clips by the university administration marketing departments, but I was most interested in the amateur ones by students and those done by third parties (e.g. doing interviews of students on different campuses).

I have no idea if it conveys anything meaningful, but I sure did come away with very very strong and different impressions of the student bodies and culture of the schools. It was also interesting to see campus tours, the inside of dorms and so on.

starbright - I have tried to look at a few we are interested. I wish more schools had these options because it could be a great marketing tool. Some school have the 360 virtual tours on their websites, but they are not giving me the “real” feel of the school. (besides - I have trouble navigating my way through the virtual tours) :D

I would do it if I were a performing arts major or even wanted to join an acapella group or marching band, to see in advance what is at some schools.

I’ve never used YouTube for a college visit, but I have often used the “virtual tours” that many colleges put on their websites. Some are quite good…almost like being there…and some are just “so so.”

Yes, we looked at them too. The schools we looked at had a lot of students being interviewed outside in various campus locales by a group called College Click TV.
They have a website with many schools on it.

Anyone do both clips and in person visits? I wonder if anyone can remember how their impression based on the clips lined up with their impression when they got to campus.
