While Williams has been more close mouthed about their wait-list management in recent Year Common Data Sets;
The 1998 and the 2000 Stats give us information that I haven't seen on other colleges reports before. Apparently 14 of the 42 offered admission off the wait-list turned them down in 1998 and 11 of the 48 offered admission off the wait-list turned them down in 2000.

Ya, I got waitlisted.

I was waitlisted as well. I wish they'd tell us when we find out if they'll take us. What if it's after May 1st? Can I ditch another college and go to Williams?

Accepted at MIT, Likely Letters from Harvard and Yale but waitlisted at Williams. Go Figure! Anyway, Proud to be a bulldog instead of a Cow. Good Luck everyone.

if you are waitlisted anywhere you will NOT find out if you've been taken before May 1. The schools don't know until all of their accepted students reply and they have until May 1. So you have to commit to another school, pay your non-refundable tuition deposit and wait and wait and wait. It could be sometime in mid-late May (or later) that you could be accepted off the waitlist, at which time you have to abandon your accepted school and accept the offer from the waitlist and pay another tuition deposit. Certainly not a great system, but that's the way it works.

daddo09: Thanks. That cleared things up for me.

waitlisted.

same here y'all. is the williams ID your SSN?

I am in the exact same situation

I really didnt care about williams

but I dont care cause I just got into duke

Waitlisted.

waitlisted. sigh.

but i did get a lovely huge package from uchicago today. took away a bit of the sting. =)

Waitlisted. I wasn't really expecting to get in, so this was a happy surprise. On the other hand, I got rejected from Berkeley and Yale today, so that made it not so fun. At least I have some other acceptances under my belt!

I have heard it said that some who are waitlisted go ahead and say yes to the 2nd place school, send in the deposit, but if they get a yes from the 1st waitlisted school, back out of the 2nd school. You can only do that if you're willing to lose your deposit. Hopefull it's only $300, and not $500. In our case, my daughter is waitlisted at Williams, but the 2nd place school had coaches who had been recruiting her, so for her to say yes to them and back out...that would be rude, I'm afraid. We're going to wait as long as possible to hear from Williams, and then give up by...April 22 or so.

I was recently waitlisted at Williams as well. I have a feeling part of it has to do with not visiting the school...but I am planning on visiting next weekend and also writing a letter expressing my strong interest. Any other advice for waitlistees?
