anyone wanna help me find a "mini Yale"????

hey guys, here's the thing: I abso-friggin-lutely LOVE yale. however, as most students may experience this, I don't think i'm yale's caliber in terms of acceptance. so, are there any schools that are similar to yale in just about every way except for difficulty of entrance or "prestige"? btw, i'm looking to go into international relations or anything that has something to do with that.

thanks a lot!

It would help if you could be a bit more specific about what it is you love about Yale, or at least, what you love the most. Is it the academics? The culture? The residential college system?

I know of several people that go to UChicago after getting rejected from Yale.

Well, it's more similar to Princeton (modelled after Princeton, in fact), but Rice has an Ivy feel and very strong academics with a selectivity level more manageable to the non-superhero applicant. It has the residential colleges, plus is known to be extremely generous with money.

I also second UChicago--it's a pretty common school for those interested in HYP to also apply to.

In general, there are several top LACs that offer absolutely excellent academics and some that are also very intellectual, if that is what you are looking for. They can be admissions bargains of sorts, depending on the type of applicant you are. For example, if you are very smart (have top stats), but not the extras that a Yale looks for (like me!), the LACs can be a little bit kinder on you.

For International Relations, Georgetown can't be beat, but I don't know if it has the feeling you are going for.

So, be more specific about what you like about Yale, and also what kinds of schools you think you would be competitive for (you can't just walk into Georgetown, UChicago, or the top 10-20 LACs either), and we can help you more.

Wesleyan, perhaps

Trinity has the look of Yale...

yes very true about trinity-- and wesleyan both connecticut schools--- representing SOCONN, WESCONN, CECONNST and SECONN

Vassar

.

SWAPS, any other top LAC

YALE:

I second Vassar

Vassar

Vassar seriously considered a merger offer from Yale in the late 1960s, when both schools were single-sex. The idea was that Yale would become coed by absorbing Vassar and relocating it to New Haven. Vassar ultimately rejected the offer, and both schools went coed separately.

If you're not of Yale caliber for acceptance, what caliber are you? Stats or other info? Right now people are recommending schools that are just as selective.
