I went, it was just ok, the Division ones were there so there were lots of clicks, but I still found a good niche. What was your experience?

Can you give more info/did you mean to post this here? Doesn’t make much sense in terms of UMD orientation?

I meant UMD orientation. I went to the 13/14 Freshmen orientation. I was wondering if anybody loved it. I liked it, but I thought it lacked energy. I don’t know if I had higher expectations for it? In addition, the Div I Athletes had their orientation the same date. They really didn’t seem interested in talk with anyone else. Then you had the “tier ones”, who were too cool to bother giving you the time of the day. My roomate went to her sister’s room because she attends UMD and is taking a summer course. I ended up meeting some nice people anyway, and exchanged Facebook names.

Thanks for the clarification. I guess “weekend” and the reference to the athletes threw me off. Are you happy with your schedule?

I’m interested in finding out how others’ orientation experiences are.

I am not too happy with the schedule. I am taking during the summer one 33 credit course at a local college so that I can afford to take 13 credits in my first semester so that is not very overwhelming and I can get used to the system without falling behind. However, I could take a “fun class” such as painting, drawing, or music appreciation because it was closed, so I was forced to put a tough class, which I am hoping to be able to change over the summer. Also, my formal adviser wasn’t there, I haven’t met him or her, and they were only assistants to help in the process, which I felt a little cheated, since I would have liked to have met the person who was to help me in the next 2 years (I am Letters and Sciences). I will continue to work on it. Thank you for your interest and for all your help in other questions I had in the past.

^I didn’t meet my advisor last summer either. In fact I didn’t meet her until I set up a meeting with one before I registered for Spring semester. There were just a bunch of upperclassmen/random assistants who didn’t really help much, so registering was definitely a chaotic process for me. It all worked out though. Keep checking the “fun classes,” most lower-level courses will have seats open up periodically throughout the summer. If you don’t check nearly every day though you might miss it. Also you should check the site [OurUMD - Students in charge of their education | OurUMD](http://www.ourumd.com/) if you haven’t already, you can look up grade distribution charts for classes and professor reviews.

Thank you Borning! I think it was a combination of things that made this last Monday and Tuesday a little lame. While we the rest were just the rest, the Jocks were having a party after another, which probably increased their ego level. There was one athlete, a golf player, that was requesting a scooter to move from place to place. When he asked, the leader asked why would he need one, he answered “to avoid injury” for which she said to him “well, can’t you get injured by using the scooter as well?”, lol.
I believe this will be water under the bridge when I start school. Once I get into clubs, share interests, go to classes and to games, it will change (I hope). Go Terps!
By the way, I meant to say 3 credits not 33 in my older post, oops!
