Anybody go to this session and have anything to share?

I know 5 people that went and they all said that it was boring. Atleast 3 of them signed up for 8 am classes too because they are stupid. 3 of them are in scholars and couldn't go to the scholars orientation so they signed up early. Every time I ask them they say there is nothing to say and that they took a test, "owned" it, signed up for classes, watched skits, and went to sleep. They said they had to go the next day. They said there is a lot of walking in the sun.

Geeze - sounds like a waste of time!

Which dorm did they stay in - did they say?

So anybody you know going yesterday and today?

no one I know is there right now. They stayed in ann arundel or whatever that honors dorm is. I know three of them slept in the same room. They got to pick people to dorm with and they said that the 3 person room was really big. They said that if you don't know anyone they think there are singles that are available.

I'm in Civicus and I think they pair us up with another Civicus student for the dorm - I know that we are supposed to do a Q&A with a Civicus student panel and then we have dinner together - so I'm looking forward to meeting others who are in the program. We'll live in Somerset and I'd heard that orientation housing is on south campus - was hoping it would be in Somerset so I can check it out.

What kind of evening entertainment did they do? Would be fun to check out the movie theater and /or bowling and other stuff in Stamp.

Returned from Orientation today, and to be frank, it was the exact OPPOSITE of boring. No offense to your friends, but even the OA's said the May 31st group was weird as h*ll. Ours was so much fun. We played Frisbee, jumped in the fountain, walked to WaWa at midnight, and chilled on the mall until about 2 AM. It's what you make, quite honestly.

The skits were actually pretty damn hilarious. The OA's are awesome. The dorms are sweet (we stayed in Queen Anne's) and the weather was great as well.

The scheduling process was easy for me and the MPE was harder than I thought but I still got into 220 (140 actually but didnt take it).

And the best news of all from the 2 days....

I HAVE NO CLASSES ON FRIDAYS! And one on Monday. Only one 9 AM, history discussion on wednesdays. My wednesdays are packed, but I'll make it work for a 3 day weekend baby!

That is all.

Lol, no argument there. At least you make me more excited. I'll ask them about the skits more specifically because I never really went into detail or anything. Its just taht they were like "we watched skits" and said it in a not so happy way.

would you say to bring any stuff? Not like pillows but like camaras, frisbees, balls, ect.? Will we have time to have fun?

Just wondering testudo, do you live instate? I commend you on the 3 day weekend, by the way.

Testudo - thats encouraging news!

What level of math did you take in HS? What did you do toprepare for the MPE?

What classes did you sign up for? Any insight on classes that appear to be full online but stil have seats for freshmen reserved somehow? Did you get into that Crim class with the prof you wanted?

Cheapseats:

The skits were a lot of improv, so maybe ours were just funnier. Who knows, I thought a lot were hilarious.

We played frisbee on the mall and got to know a lot of people doing so. There is a lot of downtime mid-1st day during class registration and My Maryland Fair (stupid). We had a good hour to play.

Yup I live in-state.. Ellicott City, MD

And thanks, I took British Lit instead of American to get that. :)

GGT:

Senior year of high school I took Calc GT, which is the lowest Calc available. I got all B's cept a D on the final because I didn't care. Don't prepare. I did horrible (all totaled I got a 75%) and I still got into the highest math with my SAT score. Even without my SAT I got into 220 (140 is the highest). The hardest part would be the Alg II stuff.

My classes are:

ENGL211 - English Literature before 1800
MATH220 - Elementary Calculus I
CCJS100 - Intro to Crim (Yes I got in. The advisor used the oversubscribe feature. She did this because I am a major..)
HIST157 - American History from 1865
UNIV101 - Mandatory University class

So yes, if it has the little red star on it, but it is full, there is a good chance you will be able to get it anyway, DEFINITELY if it is required for your major.

Hope all that helps!

You said you didn't do great on the test but got the highest math b/c of your SAT score. If you have a certain score do they just put you in higher math classes? Because I manhandled the SAT math.

Basically, they give you a sheet. On it is says what you are ALLOWED to take based on your SAT score/transfer credits and MPE combined.. I got MATH140 for that.

Then, it shows you your results in the 4 different sections of the test.

After that it says what you placed into based SOLELY on the MPE. If you are in Engineering, they go by the test only.

I got:

710 SAT

10/11 Arithmetic
14/18 Alg I
15/23 Alg II
8/11 Trig

And just by those scores, nothing else, I got into MATH220. So to only get into 111, or even any of the 0 classes (which one kid I saw did), you would have to do extraordinarily bad.

I didn't study at all, but I would say know Alg II. Trig was easy I was just rushed to finish. 63 questions, 70 minutes I think.

Gotcha, by your test score alone you were placed into 220 but with your SAT you got into 140. I doubt I am going to take 140 even if I place in it. I got a 770 SAT Math so I guess I just have to make sure I don't completely fail that test they give us.
