Hi, I was wondering if anyone here works for companies like Loreal, Maybelline, Avon, etc.

I'm looking into this industry and it really interests me (research and development, and marketing). If you do work for these companies, could you describe what you do, and the pro/con of working in this industry?

thanks.

You can follow a basic marketing major and be employed by any of the comestic or health & beauty consumer product companies.
I've known some students who had marketing background (specifically food marketing from Saint Joe's) and they worked for L'Oreal and Johnson & Johnson or McNeil. Their entry level positions were as sales reps.

To actually develop comestic products...i don't know...I guess a degree in chemistry might be good?

Many different areas you could be involved in. There are people in R&D who are developing new products, who would have a chemistry/pharm background, or expertise in color; there are are people who design the package (lipstick tube, compact) who could be graphic/fine artists, those who do the engineering component (can the design actually be made?), the sales and marketing. It is an exciting field, as there is always a race to the finish line, who can bring the new and innovative product to the shelf the quickest. A lot of the manufacturing is done overseas now, as you can imagine.

I have sent you a pm.
