Anyone worried that they won't go to prom because they don't have a "date?"

Oh my god...I'm really worried that I won't attend my senior Prom!!! I have to go...I've been dreaming of going since my junior year. I never ever been to any school dances at my school such as Homecoming, Girls League, etc.
That's because I dont have a date and I don't have much friends, I mean I do have friends, but don't hang out with them much. I know that prom is far away, ours is going to be in May, but I'm still obessing over the fact that I will end up not going at all. I know prom cost a lot, but its worth it. Prom only happens once in a lifetime and if I don't attend, I will regret it for the rest of my life!!!!! I'm absolutely NOT going Alone because that will be so boring and plain old stupid and I am not going with my twin sister, that will be so stupid also. I mean who goes to the prom with their siblings??! xD
The main reason is that I'm too shy to make friends and if I make friends I can maybe go to prom with them if they don't have a date.
Please tell me what I can do so I can go to the prom!
Any advices or tips????
IS ANYONE OUT THERE IN THE SAME POSITION AS I AM??!!

Thanks! :)

Flirt with shy white boys. They all secretly (or not secretly) want to date Asian girls.

Ditto here but I won't care too much if I don't go. It's just a dance.

In the Great Santini a brother went with his little sister.

Ok so I'm a nerd. It's ok you'll get a date, everyone is desperate during prom. everyone gets asked.

I am the same situation as you, and I empathize.
Good luck!

Uh.. is it just my school.. or is prom not until the end of the year in most places?

This is, I think, truth. You could always just ask someone yourself.

Mine is in late April, so it kind of depends on the school.

throw a party .

mine is sometime in early or mid june

If you don't get a date, approach one of your friends -- ask her what she's doing for prom and if she would mind you joining her prom group. Most people like huge, epic prom groups and wouldn't turn down another person. :]

ok calm down!
the people who have the best time do have a date but go with a group and their date isn't neccessarily "a date"; so get in touch with the friends you do have and make a plan to all go together and then you can work out the date part; sometimes a friend's brother or cousin or someone in the group. My D went to 3 proms last year and the only one she didn't enjoy was when she went with someone she had a romantic interest in. Think of it as more a a party.

ask anyone. most people will say yes. especially since you're a girl and girls asking guys is like an epic event

Just relax and ask.

Haha, I'm curious to know, what do you guys think when a /girl/ asks you for something like the prom?

i personally wouldnt find it weird unless i just for some reason really dont want to go w/ her (it depends on the person i guess...)

mine's in may.

why's everyone freaking out about prom? it's so far away and plus, it IS only a dance. bigger than regular dances but it's still in fact, a dance. okay maybe you get to dress up and be purrty... but c'mon, don't let it bother u that much. prom is just another party to have fun w/ur friends. not somethin for u to stress over. college is. i mean i have too much stuff to do right now it's useless to think about prom.

btw, u can always take the first move and ask a guy. and then, there are also juniors...i've seen girls at my school asking junior guys to go to prom w/'em

PS. after u get settled in ur future college....i doubt u'd really care about ur HS prom that much

^ very true. but you should at least experience prom once, whether it's your jr. or sr. prom. IMO

I second the recommendation of asking a junior boy. The boys on the tennis team are often particularly nice. :) Of if there is a junior boy in your senior math class, he might be a possibility. My daughter enjoyed her senior prom this spring and six kids went together. Two of the girls brought boyfriends who were in college and the third brought a nice junior boy the girls all knew, as a friend. They all had a great time.

^ of course! i regret not goin soph year. i will go to mine next yr no matter what
