I know there has to be students on CC that are young for their grade. Is it a negative or positive component to your high school career? I'm just curious about other people's experiences as one of the youngest people in their grade.

Not technically, but sometimes I feel young. I’m a senior and I was born in March 1996. It seems like lot of people in my grade were born in 1995.

I’m sort of starting college a year early because I’m taking all my senior-year classes at a local-ish university. But I’ll probably graduate from college when I’m 22 like everyone else…I’m just using my senior year to get ahead a little.

We both were born in England, where they start school at four. I was about to start school, so when I moved, my parents started me early here in private school because they thought that I was ready. He actually started school there, so when he moved here, they put him in the equivalent grade, so he was younger than everyone. Funny thing is that we still live in the same city, even though we both moved.

I know plenty of people that are still 16 and are entering their senior year. And then there are people like me that are 17 going on 18 by the end of 2013 (November for me). A lot of people in my grade were born in 1996 whereas I was born in 1995. Either way, I think the age differences are normal.

My parents say they read that boys should start school a little later because of the development and learning differences. But then again, that was like 1999 or 2000 so more modern studies may have different findings.

My 18th birthday is in two weeks (August 29th!), so that means I graduated high school at 17. Most people in my grade graduated at 18 and 19. I’m actually the youngest person in my school’s Class of 2013 haha!

I’m 16 and a senior, I have a late birthday, it’s in October. One of my friends birthdays is in October too, but he’s a year older born 95, but is a senior so he’ll be 18. It happened because he started in a different district. I have a lot of friends who have late birthdays and are young for their grade then regular people and people older for their grade.

Due to age restrictions, it is advantageous with regard to ECs to start school late. That I started school early has severely stunted the impressiveness of my extracurriculars. By starting school later, one can, for instance, work in the summer between 10th and 11th grade, although some must wait until 11th grade.

I am a 16 year old senior too. I will turn 18 at college (September 2014). My mom plans to visit me to celebrate my 18th birthday with me. She talks about it. A lot. Hmmm…

^ I was born in England as well and lived there until age 9!
So I’m 15 and going into Junior year.

Honestly, for me so far, it’s been extremely negative. Especially this summer considering almost all internships require you to be 16 so while all my friends are out doing stuff, my EC’s look shabby.

I just graduated from high school, but I skipped a grade when I was in elementary, so I’ve been a year younger than my classmates for almost as long as I can remember. I also kind of have a late birthday (June). I graduated at 16, I’ll be going away to college at 17, and I won’t be 18 until next summer.

It hasn’t been a HUGE deal, but it’s annoying at the big age milestones for obvious reasons. Although I guess it was a nice excuse for my 16 year-old driving friends to chauffeur me around for a year when I was still an unlicensed 15 year-old.
