Anyones OOS Status Change?

Well then it must have been a coincidence. I do not claim to know the process that’s just how it happened for me. I had two schools ask my school for mid year grades through the common app and my school sent them electronically without asking-which is not a problem- I guess everyone handles that differently. Good luck to all!

Son is STILL taking midterms and has had that “mail thing” for a couple weeks-ish? It’s a reach for him, too. Since they start getting apps in September…and take so long to get through them…they must not…logistically CAN’T…wait until everyone’s midyear grades are in. Keeping in mind they don’t have the benefit of a boatload of EA/Rolling decisions sent out? My son’s school automatically sends out midyear reports (without midterm grades) automatically. All but UD and Syracuse have already decided (13 where EA/Rolling) If they’re NOT required, gonna see if he can over ride the automatic sending of them as they won’t help…hmmmmmmmm

Is it a good sign if we received the parent view book? I mean, why would they send that now?

Unfortunately I would not infer much of anything to receiving the Parents booklet. They seem to send this out every year around this time to the parents of OOS applicants. I really don’t know their rationale for doing this other than to give parents of applicants some more information about UD and to keep UD fresh in their minds. Perhaps by doing this they hope to maintain parent’s interests in their child attending UD while waiting for the OOS decisions to be announced and also possibly, by providing this further information about UD, to minimze the potential for parents putting any pressure on their children to formally decide to attend another college before the UD decisions are announced. This is just a wild guess. Best of luck to all applicants.

I was disappointed to get the view book…my older child had applied five years ago and at that time UDEL was significantly less expensive than some other OOS publics. Now it is $41,000. But the pictures are pretty.

I don’t think decisions have been made yet. D rec’d an email from the chair of scholarship committee yesterday inviting her to apply to honors program. She just needs to submit the essay. D wasn’t interested in the honors program at the time she applied but now was excited to receive the invitation. She doesn’t have to reply until 2/18 which leads me to believe the decisions are still being made. Her mid-term grades are being sent next week (UDEL didn’t ask for them-our h.s. sends them automatically), we got the viewbook, and the status change.

I agree with pineview. They are still in the process of making decisions for many OOS applicants. I believe they have 3 piles of applicant files right now. One pile has applicants who have been accepted based primarily upon their high academic credentials and a second pile includes applicants who have been rejected based upon their lack of acceptable academic credentials. The third pile are the applicants who meet minimal academic standards for admission but UD does not have the spaces to admit them all. It is unfortunate because I suspect most all these applicants could succeed at UD. While there may be some relatively unique factors (i.e. alumnae connection, minority status, first generation college, etc.) I suspect the majority deciding factors for many students in this group are first semester SR. year grades, EC’s, and the essay. It is my belief that UD does put a significant emphasis on the essay in this grouping of applicants.

Also you need to determine which students to offer placement on the “wait list” (which is not ranked - so if you are interested in pursuing admission after being offered a “wait list” spot I would recommend accepting such a placement ASAP-however it does appear to be broken down by specific majors). I will see if I can get some more specific figures on this.

Everyone should begin to find out in about four weeks. My best “guess” is that UD will begin to send out Email acceptance notices the evening of 3/8/13 (followed by the official acceptance packet in the US mail). Best of luck to all applicants.

Here is some data for the “Wait List” for past years:

Unfortunately I don’t have the data for last year. Hope this info helps. I hope when I submit this the columns stay intact. If not I apologize.

Thank you for the wait list information and for all of your insight!

OOS decisions have been mailed and received! we are located in Virginia and my son received his acceptance letter on friday 2/8 in the mail (big bright yellow envelope saying congratulations) accepted into honors as well as finalist recipient for scholarship in which have to come up weekend in march to compete for

good luck to everyone who is awaiting decisions, they have already started sending them out, we are in VA and my son received his acceptance via mail on friday Feb 8th

Congrats to your son. You must be very proud of him. However I believe that the only OOS individuals who are receiving decisions right now are the 100-150 individuals who are being invited to attend the Distinguished Scholars Competition/Interviews in early March. The rest of the applicants will have to wait until decisions are released in March (unless things have dramatically changed from past years).

bestinva, did you check the online site? The video is often quite lovely and worth a watch! Oh, and congratulations!!!
