I got deferred from UChicago, and I was pretty upset. It is still a top choice for me so I sent my ACT score, and an extra recommendation from a teacher with my midyear report. I have no intention of giving up on UChicago, and I want to know if there is anything else I can do to help my chances. If anyone can chance me RD at this point, that would be great as well.

-stats:
-SAT I: cr.m.w: 710.770.800
-ACT: 33 (sent to UChicago after deferral)
-GPA: 94-95 range
-Taking 4 aps this year; so far I have taken 5

But if there’s one thing Chicago likes, it’s persistence. So shoot your regional counselor an email just to say that Chicago is still your first choice. Beyond that you’ve appropriately updated your file so it’s out of your hands. Don’t worry!

Talk to your admissions counselor, and schedule an interview! Update them with recent accomplishments and keep on them (but not annoyingly) that UChicago remains your dream school!

I sent my regional adcom a continued interest e-mail a few days after my deferral, and I had an interview for EA back in November. After sending them my ACT score and another teacher rec, I probably shouldn’t send anything else…right? As much as I want Chicago to know that I really want to go there, I don’t want to come off as annoying, as above poster said.
Also, does my being deferred but showing interest still, put me on the same level as all RD applicants?

I’d keep quiet from here on out. If you have something else to notify them about, however, you can get away with a suck uppy sentence or two in the explanatory email:

"My dear admissions counselor,

I would like to update my application for admission with some recent and pertinent information. I just cured the common cold. It would be appreciated if you could take the time to add this to my file.

The University of Chicago is still my first choice and it smells really, really nice.

Haha thanks OxalisWombo…I think I’ll just keep it quiet and wait for my decision. I’ve done all I can, and hopefully it will all work out. Thanks again :)
