ANYTHING good about UC Berkeley?

Weather is pretty good for the most part (except when it randomly rains). It’s not hard to find your niche here since there are tons of people and Berkeley has a reputation for being diverse and unique. I actually like the competitive atmosphere here because it pushes me to become better…not just academically but in everything I do. Just don’t count your successes by comparing yourself to other people…focus on improving and beating your own records and you will have a great time here at Cal.

haha actually people are pretty good looking here surprisingly. I mean there are a lot of good looking asians cause they’re naturally smart and not nerdy really. Plus, there is a huge asian population. as for others, idkkk lol

weather is always cooler.

the thing i hate kind of is the competition

Just contributing to an old post that made me relieved that I made the right choice in coming to Cal.

They say that Berkeley is a place where there’s no handholding (i.e. you’re on your own). While it may be true that you really learn how to be independent here, there are many resources and people who are willing to help you out in any way that they can both personally and academically. Remember, you’re not alone and that there’s always someone out there to help you. Just reach out!

I came into Cal having trouble making close friends. Not only was I quiet and socially anxious, but I was separated from most of my peers. I started off living in an apartment, which meant that I missed out on much of the dorm life. The few friends that I did have eventually dwindled down (they were always “too busy” for me), and I spent much of my second semester crying in my apartment due to loneliness. However, I kept trying anyways and, knowing the town of Berkeley, there were many groups that I had access to, one of which became one of the best choices in my life. Along the way, I’ve met a wide variety of people who have taught me, among other things, how to feel self-confident, how to be tough and independent, and how to be a good friend.

All in all, it’s really the people who make Berkeley Berkeley. The people you meet here are some of the most intelligent, (hopefully) kindest, and talented individuals you’ll ever come across.

Idk what people are talking about being cut-throat. Yes the material can be difficult, but no, people are not sabotaging each other for grades. I’ve found it actually pretty good in terms of collaboration. I’m in Mechanical Engineering btw. Berkeley is one of those places where you struggle at times, but when you get through something, you’re glad you did it. I haven’t graduated yet, but I know that coming out of Berkeley, I’ll be glad I worked hard.

The problem with Berkeley is that there is very little support for the individual students and the professors do not care. You are basically on your own and you sink or swim.

Just curious: is there any point in posting a question like this?
