I'm really just wondering. Any thoughts?

prestigious, nice campus, nice girls, its cali!!!...good engineering

West Coast, Lots of people, California, Most Prestigious/best Public School in the United States (just an opinion but a lot of people would agree)

"prestigious, nice campus, nice girls, its cali!!!...good engineering"

Nice girls? Just wondering: what makes you think that? I believe playboy magazine once rated it #1 for having the ugliest girls on campus. Now, I'm not trying to bash on Berkeley. Having said this I want to go there.

They created LSD and FreeBSD!

Don't you think the buildings look like MIT-ish? I never found UCB's architecture as "attractive." (1 thing I don't like about UCB) Is that true, Tiberius, that UCB is ranked #1 for having the ugliest girls? Or is it just sarcasm?

But things I like from Cal:

Located at BAY Area
CA
Weather
Liberal
Lots of campus activities

Well, I'm from Los Angeles so here are my reasons:
-Amazing school. (Haas!)
-Diverse population.
-Great music scene.
-People who aren't "Hollywood."
-Beautiful weather. (I find the grey comforting.)
-Liberalism.
-Next to SF.
-and of course...CLAM CHOWDA' IN A SOURDOUGH BOWL!

You can tell I really would like to attend UCB.

kevster1001, I believe I read that on these forums and I also remember finding an article on that when I was doing research on UCSB and its "hot" girls.

I'm sure at least that the Bay area must have good looking gals though.

Berkeley is amazing--I absolutely love the city (I've lived here for my whole life). I was seriously considering turning a couple Ivies down for Berkeley.

Second to MIT in engineering, prestigious, family would like it, urban setting, #1 public school, I'll probably be able to finish undergrad in 3 years...

EDIT:
Oh yeah, and it's $6000 a year tuition! (Only like $15k a year total)

If you live in California, it is a GREAT deal as far as money vs. quality of education goes.

Flippy, I thought on average it costs about 22k at a UC. Can you give me some sort of price distribution on expenses?

It is around 22K for the more expensive UC's. It's around 7K for tuition, 10K for housing, and 5K for everything else (transportation, books, insurance, personal expenses). I got rough estimates from UCSD's site: http://fao.ucsd.edu/Cost_01.htm. Although berkeley is a bit more expensive.

Oops, I didn't realize how expensive room and board was.

But the tuition is about $6.5k a year.

What are some of the big differences between UCLA and UCB? (i.e. campus + close-knit feeling, aesthetics, etc)

I've never been to UCLA but there is a huge difference in people who live in LA and SF. UCLA is in a very nice, ritzy neighborhood, kinda like Bell Air. UCB is more urban and actually has neighboring bums. I believe the people are different as well.

"Nice girls? Just wondering: what makes you think that? I believe playboy magazine once rated it #1 for having the ugliest girls on campus. Now, I'm not trying to bash on Berkeley. Having said this I want to go there."

Hot girls? I'm hoping for some hot guys! Lemme just say if I get into UCB, I'll have better chances with no competition from the girls.

I regret to inform everyone but I know a dozen or so girls from our school that are now going to UCB and every one of them is very good looking.

berkeley bump.

just as a note, after having gone to calso, I can confirm that the girls at berkeley are not very good looking.

now this is getting confusing
