anything interesting going on on campus this weekend?

Is there anything interesting or unusual going on on campus this weekend, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday (July 18, 19, 20)? This seems like a very quiet time of year.

I think there are a lot of people living on campus for summer freshman class but I think they don't have classes on Fridays so they go home, leaving the campus very quiet.

Most kids I knew last year who did summer school didn't come home for weekends at all... In fact, my son, who was a fall admit, wished he could have been there all summer!!! He ended up driving back and forth on weekends for different events.

I'm not sure about this weekend, but next weekend, one house has a big party friday night that he's going back for, and Fiji Islander is on Saturday.

But, those might not be the types of activities your looking for ;)

What is "Fiji Islander"? (If it involves coconut shell bras, grass skirts, or pina colada jello shots, maybe I don't want to know...)

No coconut shell bras :)

It's a big fraternity party that draws a huge crowd, there will be a ton of freshmen there, along with upperclassmen. If your daughter could grab another girl or join a group from her dorm, they could all go together. Girls have no problems getting into the parties ;)

I don't really think anything unusual goes on during the weekends...everyone I know in the summer class stays pretty much ever weekend and studies some and does what typical college students do over the weekend.

But there isn't anything special going on that I've heard of, and definitely nothing I would recommend to a mother.

If it's anything like 1982, keep your daughter away from the Fiji ( a nickname for Phi Gamma Delta as I recall) party!

Well, since it's not 1982, I would guess they're different, since those guys have all graduated - unless it's like the movie "Old School" and there are old and married men there ;)

But, if your kid is not into the greek scene (I know that there are many out there who have their own reasons for being anti-greek, I don't want to turn this thread into a greek bashing thread), then by all means stay away!

For those who are not anti-greek, it is a good way to meet a bunch of people and have a fun time.

LoL Ag54! Just trying to picture some of my former classmates still hanging around the frat house with balding heads and love handles! I'm getting quite a laugh.
